My first and, probably, only thread, but a recent exchange with Southron Sword really got me thinking...

Now, we all know that Martin likes to stay close to his fans, visiting conventions and the like, posting regularly on his blog, etc. He confesses himself (I read it somewhere on his not-a-blog I think) that the opinion of fans is not something he chooses to ignore, or even seems to be able to ignore. Is it, then, so far fetched that he might, perhaps, take great fun in playing the role of a Varys-like chameleon among those fans? That, just perchance, he walks among us?!

Have a stiff drink (watch Sherlock Holmes) and continue...

So, who could it be? I'm fairly new to these threads and our suspect will likely, though perhaps not certainly, be a dab hand around these parts (I also started this ridiculous thread, so it's obviously not me). So what about...

Southron
? for subtly putting the idea into my head, knowing a few drinks and a probable watching of said film would breed said conclusion? hmm...very convoluted.

TK
? Long Time Poster and what does that Stormtrooper's mask truly hide?

Hilarious Joke? Again LTP, and ironic, no?

Ursa Major? Another LTP and I guess George Martin bears an uncanny resemblance...

Culhwch? Also LTP and are you really Australian...?

Vizion? He really hates Erikkson. He also recently stated that hating Bran 'was his thing'. A good alibi...aliby?...a good cover?

Boaz? No. Too good of a disguise.:D

My money? Well, let's see...Martin's self-confessed favourite character, based on being able to empathize with said favourite character? Tyrion. Tyrion, the Imp! Furthermore, the Imp has blatantly declared, on several occasions, that his age is 'very similar' to that of our infiltrator. What more do you need? Okay, how about his recently posting that these threads are something of 'an island of sanity'? (see that. Memory.) As everyone knows, Martin's relationship with some fans has been 'tempestuous' at best, and he makes it abundantly clear on his not-a-blog the stresses he's under. Coincidence? Unlikely, my friends. Unlikely.

Imp. Confess.

Yea Imp, confess...

I'd like to respectfully request that you take a break from your other duties and knock the book out, then resume as usual.

Also, Mr Mart...er I mean Imp, I'd like to request a bit more Edd, and a touch more...well...Imp, if you would, and don't give me any of that "I'm not Martin" hogwash. You've been outed.

Now, get to it.

This is absolutely holarious. I'm not kidding when I say that I have tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks. You guys brightened my day.

GRRM and i also have The Giants and The Jets in common, as well as a beard and a love for writing, but I assure you that he and I are not the same person. :)

....well, who is it that wins all the "who said that" quotes...Hmmmm?

and all the trivia questions?

I believe you have been sufficiantly rebuffed Southron. Imp is, indeed, quite the quiz buff.

And notice the oh-so deliberate mis-spelling of hilarious ('holarious'), a mistake that the very meticulous Martin would never make.

So very, very transparent...

but I assure you that he and I are not the same person. :)
Ohhhh, I get it...

You are hiding behind the Imp persona, and the avatar. So it really isn't you. you are assuming a role *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.

Now get back to dancing.

This is an interesting thread. I must say, Imp, it doesn't look good. You've got to do something drastic to prove you aren't who they say you are.

This thread reminds me of this

holy crap that's funny.:D Can't stop laughing...

And oddly enough, The Imp's avatar shows someone with their arms crossed, just like in the picture Lois altered.

The evidence is, evidently, mounting....

The Imp is a red herring! The true GRRM in our midst must be Boaz. Mr. Martin knows his game, what better way to be discounted than by producing crackpot theory after crackpot theory with just enough insight to not be a charicature?

Well, If I wasn't a 'red herring" and really Gearoge this would be a great time to say

"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

but I'm not George

or am I?

nah :D

so I'll continue posting

unless I'm George

hmmmmm

Uhhh, GRRM is not me. I mean, I'm not GRRM.

I'm fairly much what I appear to be... an opinionated, narcissistic, overfed, holier-than-thou, brutish self-appointed spelling nazi of the GRRM forums. Really, my bashing if Renly or my proposing of Tyraen Targaren theories are the most intelligent of my posts.

Personally, I think that Raven is GRRM... or at least GRRM's publisher... or GRRM's publisher's spouse.

Another thought would be to see what posters have disappeared from these forums since AFFC was published... since GRRM now has no time to spare lurking on these forums. Former prominent posters include... AryaUnderfoot, Aegon the Unworthy, Trey Greyjoy, Lacedaemonian, red_temple, Dolorous Edd, Yossarian, Sword of the Morning, Snaga's Tender Blades, MIDNIGHT, and j.d. worthington.

There's a basic assumption** that someone here is GRRM.

But what if some of the people here are GRRM. We know GRRM "is" tricksy. What I know about "him" is what "he" has written about "himself". It may all be fiction.

Look at his name: George R R Martin. R R. Are are (emphasizing the implied plurality).

So GRRM are some people and perhaps one or more of them post here.

(Oh, and I am not Boaz. ;):))

** - Not, I'm pleased to say, shared by I, Brian.

I, Brian - that's kinda what started this whole thing :)
And Imp - you're not helping by quoting Douglas Adams, you know!

The fact that this piece of late-night madness actually seems remotely plausible by the light of day has been a source of endless amusement so far and, I think, should be taken as a compliment.:) I'll not hear John William's Superman theme in the same way, nor any more talk of you quitting these threads - even if you are GRRM.

That said, Ursa - I like your thinking. In fact, the only thing I know for sure is that I'm not GRRM, which could mean that you're all GRRM. That's it, I want a blood sample from everyone here...http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkNyC6MQMj0commence scene.

Couldn't resist.
