Is George Martin Among Us?

For some reason I'm thinking of dotting eyes that are too close together....

Oh and I name you Syrio and I claim my £10. (That's £5 for Syrio and £5 for Jaqen H'ghar. ;):) )

But at least it means that you're not GRRM.

(Or does it? What if GRRM has caught the King/Dark Tower bug...?:(;))

A man is misunderstood. A man will quoth the scripture:

"And yea, it was written in the stars that a faceless man would be lead by a teddy bear across the wide lands of Chrons and partake of the arduous ‘Trials of World Cup Tipping’ and endure the dreaded ‘Torture of the Vuvuzela’. And yea, though the faceless man was deafened he braved these perils and saw all about him the Unbelievers of the world and those who had strayed far. And the faceless man vowed to move among them and to know them. And yea, he would whisper in their ear the word of St. Martin-that-is-George and say, “That way leads to Westeros.”

"Yea."

I think that GRRM's inability to finish ADWD and King's problems with The Dark Tower are very different. King's issues, as I understand them were twofold. FIrst, he wasn't always able to write about Roland. and his world. Maybe that was a psychological problem, or maybe a real one, but it limited his ability to make progress on the series. The timeline was 22 years between the publication of the first and last books. With gaps of as many as 6 years between books (twice). The second problem was that he rushed the next 3 books, especially the last two, adn the quality suffered. This is even more apparent when you consider that King stopped writing after his accident

The timeline

The Gunslinger 1982 (I think it was actually written in the 70's)
The Drawing of the Three 1987
The Wastelands 1991
Wizard and Glass 1997 (the best of the series IMO)
Wolves of the Calla 2003
Song of Susannah 2004
The Dark Tower 2004

GRRM, on the other hand, has two different problems. First, he apparently can't write anywhere but home, and he's on the road a lot. Second, his inability to self-edit is both a blessing and a curse. WHile his books are long, beautifully written epics, they create real world problems in terms of publishing. GRRM also tend tend "write himself into corners" that he has trouble getting out of.

Anyway, this was a long winded way of saying they suffer from different bugs, at least IMO.

It was King's appearance as a character in his own series to which I was referring, and not the time he took to complete The Dark Tower series.

So what I was saying was that as a Faceless Man, No One couldn't be GRRM because the Faceless Men appear in ASoIaF; unless, that is, GRRM was himself in ASoIaF, hiding there as a Faceless Man. Otherwise I'm not sure my original comment would make much sense.

(And as you know, all my comments make sense.)

Ah, I get it now :)

I thought King inserting himself was a disatrous decision, and really ruined what was, up until then, a great series. I had speculated way before then that the Crimson King was the "Read" King. Can I get a cookie for that? :D

Let's see...long, beautifully written epics or easily managable manuscripts?

I choose the former.

If I also agree completely**, will that make me yet another instance of GRRM in some folks' eyes?

** - Which I do.
