re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I've not been able to find the time to read through the entries yet, not write my own. :(

Actually, does anyone mind if I re-submit mine from last month? After all, on the internet no-one knows you're a cat - that's a form of disguise, right? :p

A bridge too fur.

(Or should that be a router...? ;):))

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

... even though it feels like sometimes there's a real deeper meaning there that's just making a slight whistling noise as it passes over my head.

I think we all experience that sensation of something whizzing over our heads when reading some of the pieces. In 75 words, a lot can depend on hints and inferences.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

It doesn't look like too many more have added entries since I've been on last for any amount of time.

It's been a hectic last few days with me, so I still haven't read through enough entries yet to make any kind of decision. I just hope I do eventually find the time to. I promise I will make a vote this month.

In the mean time, why don't we all lean back and start laughing amongst ourselves at how much life can interfere with our pleasures, hm? :p

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I'm still devoid of inspiration. But I will post something. (What, though?)

(This is somewhat worrying, as one of the themes of my WIPs is, now I think about it, disguise.)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I will post as well. I have a vague idea, that is slowly forming in my head. Hopefully it coalesces into something suitable...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Hurrah, have finally managed to post something!

This month has been so busy, I thought I wouldn't get there. Now I can relax and enjoy everyone elses stories without worrying that the only thread of an idea I had would be used by someone else.

As ever all the other stories are great, with some lingering in the mind. Haven't got a favourite yet, but am enjoying the diversity.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Phew. Finally managed to finish something which I think is good enough to post after two failed attempts and a couple of really good ideas (Ah-ha. The wolf in Red Riding Hood. Oh... Ah-ha. The Teddy Bear's Picnic. Oh...).

Oddly enough, the last three times the title has come easily to me but this time I think I've spent longer on that than on the rest of the piece put together. At one point (2am when I still couldn't sleep) I even considered putting it up without a title and inviting everyone to offer something -- only the thought of Ursa's "Take me to your Leda" stopped me. :D:p In the end, though, I even managed an alternative: "Literary Opportunism -- The Ripping-off Of Yeats"!

I've managed another almost-hidden message, also (two, in fact, if you count this post) which might give a few second's amusement. And I trust Mouse will be happy that sex has made an appearance.

Incidentally, another good entry Mouse. I haven't got your concealed whatever-it-is yet, but I shall persevere.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Judge, your poetry should be included in mythology books - that was beautiful! And the ending was really powerful. I hated the story of Leda and the swan for three years after doing a horrible assignment on it, but you have soothed the wounds of my vicious heart and wooed me with your sweet, sweet words.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Thank you, digs. Have you ever read the Yeats? It's wonderful and I'd recommend it to everyone.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

And who will follow the Leda? Perhaps I should put music to it for the Leda Lied? (Basis for the Leda Lieder, obviously) But if I lied, what would it lead to? Cygnus in bronze or lead, led to LED dispersed darkness?

Quickly logs off to lunch before Ursa gets wind of a double-yolked egg.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I was merely going to congratulate TJ on the new feather in her cap.

(And as you're logging off for a purpose, Chris, I can't even accuse you of swanning off.)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

(Ah-ha. The wolf in Red Riding Hood. Oh... Ah-ha. The Teddy Bear's Picnic. Oh...).

Ah! Revenge for last month! I could do the transformation of Daphne...oh. Damn. OK, I really like Kafka's Metamorphosis, maybe...ah, damnit!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Judge, I completely empathise with your title troubles, I always try to use it to make sure people got the twist but this time I didn't want to spoil the ending. It's almost embarrassing to say it but.....my mother came up with the title, eek!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Just as well the title isn't included in the 75 words then. ;):)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I love your story, Judge. I'm too recently awake to look for hidden meanings, but I will. I haven't found Mouse's yet, either.

And now, I would like to remind people of two things, because two issues have very recently come up twice each:

1. This is where we post all of our remarks about the various stories. Not in the thread with the stories.

2. Once the editing period expires, that's it. No one can go back and edit for you, and helpful suggestions for things that need to be edited are wasted.

I know that for people who are new to the Challenge and/or the forums it takes a while to get to know your way around and figure out what is happening. Moderators are here to help you (and if we can't help you, advise you) and we don't mind doing so at all.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Thank you Teresa. I should confess that mid-afternoon I started to worry that it might be considered a bit too explicit for the forum (never occurred to me in advance, of course!) so I do hope it doesn't offend anyone.

But I see that after that day with nothing, we've had another little flurry of activity. It looks like we may well hit the 42 mark again.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

It is a little racy. Maybe I should ask our Newest Moderator* to give you a friendly warning.

*Now where did she get to? Ah, right there in front of me.
