re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Incidentally, another good entry Mouse. I haven't got your concealed whatever-it-is yet, but I shall persevere.

Ta. :) Think I posted the wrong one though. And the concealed thing... I wasn't sure whether to mention it or not as it's not that exciting! :p

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I got the Judge's hidden thing straight away.

Achh'Pwaitf -- Abyssinian god of swans, is that right?

A beautiful pome, and one of a crop of excellent latecomers (cutting it a bit fine -- it is the 8th after all!)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

:D *Dons a sheep suit and follows Judge around* I'm gonna call you Little Bo Peep from now on. :D
You've clearly been taking StormFeather's piece too much to heart... :p

HareBrain, I knew one of your erudition, wit and insight would make a complete hash of it. Abyssinian. Hah! Not even close. That's geese, not swans. And it's the wrong continent...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

However, at that time, Helen was married to a principal Greek chieftain by the name of Menelaus. Furthermore, Helen was not only beautiful, she was from an unusual background. She was the daughter of Leda, who had gotten pregnant when raped by Zeus disguised as a swan.

My question is... why a swan? And I thought the Japanese and their tentacles were strange...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

OK, once I trained my powerful intellect on the question, I quickly perceived both of your hidden messages, Judge.

Now to contemplate Mouse's story a little longer.

Zeus had a penchant for that kind of thing. He came to Europa in the form of a white bull and to Danae as a shower of gold. Actually, that one really puzzles me... but this probably isn't the right place to debate the erotic merits of money.

Re Leda, though, the oddest thing isn't the swan, it's that her husband also came to her that night and in due course she was delivered of two eggs, each containing a pair of twins -- and Zeus was the father of Helen and one of the boys, the husband of Clytemnestra and the other boy twin. Or possibly vice versa. I think. Weird isn't in it.

I expect Zeus decided the shower of gold had a greater erotic charge.

(You know, because the latter is bull + ion.)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

And urine does conduct electricity quite nicely.... oh wait... you meant real gold - that'll do just as nicely!

Zeus fathered Helen and Pollux and Tyndareus fathered Clytemnestra and Castor. The weird thing is Castor and Pollux were twins (Gemini), despite the fact that they had different fathers, one was immortal and one wasn't, and they came from different eggs...

Rather be Leda and the swan than Europa and the bull! Or Io, who Zeus turned into a cow. Or Semele, who was burned to cinders just by looking at Zeus. Or Ganymede, who was abducted by Zeus as an eagle (I love Greek mythology...). King of the gods...not such a great boyfriend.

Um, in an attempt to say something on topic, it's funny how stories seem to be posted in clumps (and not necessarily on the weekend). Maybe, a few times each month, all humans experience a worldwide surge in creativity motivated by some change in the collective subconscious! Maybe.

The alien mind sweeper located on Ganymede has to be a candidate. One of the suspected side effects of mind scanning is a lowering of the boundaries between the conscious and the subconscious which is a likely cause of bursts of creativity.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Well he'd (or she'd or it'd) better start scanning in my direction soon, Parson, because if there's a challenge story in my head, it's heavily disguised.

(The more likely scenario is that I'm challenged.)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Well maybe I can help.....

Hmmm..... He/She/It wondered why a mind sweeper would need to look and scan like a largish boulder in a crater.:D

You're on your way!!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Just write a technical draft on the proper operation of a gas-powered hedge-trimmer and disguise it as a literary piece.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

OK, it's getting serious now.

Two contenders for me so far Parson was out on his own for a long time - I liked the smugness in the wolf's tone.

However Boneman has just made it a two horse race - Thanks for that.

I'm developing the bubble sort method whereby you read them as they are posted and select the best so far. As new posts occur I then decide if the newest is better than the best so far and switch or not. That way you read everything but don't have too much all in one lump as the cowboy said.

However Then you get two you can't pick between and look for the nearest solid wall. Not many of them in my house I've dented them all too often.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Parson was out on his own for a long time?!! Thanks, but I believe that TheEndIsNigh indeed if that's the case. :)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Don't forget the ones in the title(s). And in the rest of the text.

I think the inspiration (if that's the right word) for this month's effort should be clear to one and all.

* Wonders if the story contains the sort of humour Grimward would like. *

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Yes, Ursa, but it's a story's ending that cinches the piece together....

*shrugs* It actually got a grin out of me-after a big groan, of course. :D ;)
