re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

I'm working in a different computer, in a different room, and I've just noticed that when I check out the poll it doesn't say ?You have already voted…" Ahah, it's the computer that votes, not the member. I could…

No, of course I wouldn't; and The Judge was 1.8 points behind, anyway. (Not much, out of a hundred, is it?)

Now, there are two computers in the Video on the Web, one in the audio, three in the office, and perhaps the NeKo synthesizer would like a vote. After all, it web browses.

Frank's laptop, there's an old PC in the cellar…

At least it would look as if my exhortations for votes had had some effect.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Being strict with myself and drawing up a short list of only ten included the following:

Boneman – Rotten to the Core
Chel – The Singer of Secret Sorrows
Chopper – Oranges and Lemons
Culhwch – Time is the Best Disguise
Digs – Dare
HoopyFrood – Big Surprise
Sleepless – Found
StormFeather – Black Sheep

But the two which impressed me most forcibly when I first read them and which stayed with me throughout were:
HareBrain – Fuath
Teresa –The Fountain of Fair-Seeming

And it's HareBrain's which just pips Teresa at the post because I love the idea of the poor creature wanting to be human and its uncomprehending melancholy.

Yeah, I noticed that in the first challenge voting period.

The two places I check up on The Chrons from are my office PC and my iMac at home, and once I had voted in April (from work), I, too, noticed that when I went home, I could (if I so desired) have another vote. Then there's the PC in my sister's former room, and a laptop lying about.

Have I taken advantage? Now that shall remain a mystery...

:D

Let's have a vote in here and see who thinks I have or have not circumvented the rules.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Well now, that's a marked improvement! Two mentions! I'm on my way - tomorrow, the world! Many thanks, TJ and Teresa!

I'm yet to do a re-read and vote, though I must do it soon - no way to disguise the fact that time is escaping me...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Bah!!

Finally get the chance to sit down and go through the stories to try and make a decision, and end up with a short-list of 24 . . . including Sleepness, Mouse, Judge, Nixie, Reiver, Cul, Teresa . . .

I'm going to have to do a lot more thinking

Who to choose???
:confused::confused:

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Ok, I've finally managed to whittle my shortlist down to 10 - but only by being very brutal with myself.

Chel - Singer of Secret Sorrows
Chrispy - Temptation
Learning - Sun Day
HareBrain - Fúath
digs - Dare
OneBigPotatoe - A reflection
Moonbat - Hexa-Demonical
Devils Advocate - . . . And Into the Fire
Boneman - Rotten to the core
Chopper - Oranges and Lemons

Honorable mentions also Ventamist, Taly, TEIN, MGIR & HJ

In the end, I had to toss a coin to choose between Learning and HareBrain. I loved Learning's story - for me at least it was simple, hopeful and filled me with a kind of lovely joy. HB's - well, that one stay with me for a long time.

And the coin flipped in favour of HB - sorry Learning . . .

BTW - Thank you so very much those of you who have mentioned my story in your shortlists - it really fills my heart with joy. And to the person who voted for me - I could kiss your feet, whilst at the same time wondering if you've clicked on the wrong option . . . but it's my first ever vote in this challenge and I'm very, very grateful :D:D

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Thanks StormFeather! My first mention. Congratulations on your first vote, first of many if you keep up this quality of writing.

Haven't voted yet :S Daunting to say the least.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Thank you for the mentions and my very first vote!

I've just voted now, which was an even harder task than writing this month's entry. I started making a short list, but realised the piece of paper I used was too small for all the names I'd have to write down... those I did write down before that were Digs, Devil's Advocate and Sleepless.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Actually, I don't think either of you guy's votes registered - I've still got none!

Hmm, the Writing Challenge Poll doesn't seem to be working either, none there as well. Maybe I should reset the votes, that might fix it...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Mine registered as the third vote, Cul, which surprised me. Let us know if we need to vote again please.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

And I need to learn to read. Good thing I still have a day job!

Well I voted - Scrapyard guard for me.

Oh Cul, I didn't see yours are you sure you included it.

On a technical note Cul, I think the format here is better. I.E where there's a separate thread for comments. I know it's been the norm over there in the pictorially challenged section but maybe something to consider.

Have to go. Need to clean my bookshelves. :)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- July & August

Ooh, just checked the poll and it looks like it might not be the one-horse-race I thought ...

Thanks to everyone who mentioned or voted for mine so far. Stormfeather, special thanks for your comment -- it's made my day!
