re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

Wow! Go away for a day or two and you are suddenly out of the loop entirely!!! What a pile of excellent posts!! I'm with DZ, not one that I'd gag if it won. But I have a favorite, actually more than one....

Judge, I just loved your story! Not having a great deal of Greek Mythology to fall back on, I did not see the reference to Greek mythology, but the story had that kind of a feeling to it. Hidden message? I shall go and hunt. Just hope I don't have to go to Helen Hunt.:D

Heh! I spy with my little eye! Nice one your Honor!

I haven't quite got Procrastinator's yet (I can be appallingly dense) but something about it makes me want to read it again and again until I do, which is a good sign.

I'll take it as a good sign, a sign of depth in my writing, rather than incomprehensibility...mystery, rather than clarity...errrrrr....

Btw I don't have a top five yet HB but yours is on it. I loveth irony and you do it so well!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

See, I feel less cleverer now that everybody is getting TJ's story!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

As Mr Seymour himself might say, I've done it! Woop!

That was tough. Now I can settle back and read everybody else's.

Thank you, Parson. We'll see next month if you have started a tradition. If nothing else, it means everyone is reading my piece at least twice!!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

It started me thinking if it would be possible for someone to write a great continuing saga in 75 word portions as the months went by. Certainly it would be very difficult, considering that the themes change and each story would have to stand complete all on its own.

It could be done, but I don't think I would have the courage to tackle it.

Hmmmm....

Thanks for the inspiration, Teresa! At first I thought it impossible, but once the seed of the idea was planted, I couldn't shake it. An obvious transformation presented itself, and in trying to write it, I came across a second to add to the first...

I don't know how many challenges I could keep this up, though. It will largely depend on the themes. And if some eventual winner restricts us to science fiction I'll be screwed.

Lenny's is hilarious in this challenge. Like Ein from Cowboy Bebop.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

Now that is a compliment. Thank you very much! I'm glad I could entertain at least one person. :D

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

So I just want y'all to know I had another story, I'm no one trick a month pony. I guess not many ponies (s?) perform tricks anyway (of the entertaining variety). Thanks to a few friends though I think (hope (pray (too many brackets))) I chose the right one. The other one below didn't fit in the word count right, I wanted to say 'in her eyes her father was a good man' thus making the story about different peoples viewpoints of a soldier (including ones self) but didn't quite work. Anyway, good luck all you story writers and for all you story voters, thanks for taking the time to read each story :)

It will be interesting to see where you take this. And whether you'll end up cursing me for the suggestion.

There's every possibility I'll only do it when it suits me, so there should be no cursing.

Incidentally, I was wondering if it would be kosher to include a hyperlink in the story? I was considering linking the word 'death' in the first par back to my last story, but I worried this might be cheating. And I don't want to set an unfavourable precedent...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

Maybe a postscript noting that this story is part of the larger arc, with links to all the "chapters" would be better; less intrusive on the story itself?

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

I don't have a problem with hyperlinkage, if only for the sake of literary experimentation. But I'm just a lowly participant.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

I'm disappointed that no-one** has spotted how my three entries are linked.

** - Including me. ;):) . . . (But I'm working on it.)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

My entries are linked by the common theme of not being related to one another.

...unless someone else finds some links! Death of the author!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

...or, at least, in the same pun factory.... ;):)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

...it is best that we only share stories we wrote and decided not to post for previous Challenges, not the one that is open at the particular time we are sharing them here. It will be less confusing that way.

I've just gone back and edited a post from above to remove a story written to the current month's theme. This is just a reminder to keep Teresa's words above, from the very start of this thread, in mind and only post your second and third and fourth (as the case may be) efforts from previous challenges in this thread. Not only is it less confusing, it creates a fairer playing field - we don't want voters considering - conciously or otherwise - a favoured second effort when coming to vote.
