Nanowrimo

Just to let you you all know, I haven't stopped. No, really, I haven't. I'm just giving you all a head start, to, um, make it more competitive. Yeah, that's it.

I'm screwed...

Ok, we have a false sense of security now, you can go ahead and post your actual word count that you've been withholding.... :)

I've got the Week Two's. I'm finding it much harder than the first week - maybe I've just depleted my stock of ideas.

No way I could take part in this, as I'm a edit-as-I-go person, and the thought of writing and not correcting the mistakes makes me hyperventilate. I'm also nearing the end of WIP 2 and there's only about 25,000 words left, so I can't break off to write something completely different. But in a spirit of solidarity I shall try and get 15,000 (edited) words written in the first two weeks, which is almost double the best average I've ever managed.
Ta-da!

It's not on a par with the efforts of those doing the whole thing, but I am proud to announce the successful attainment of my own target -- and two days ahead of schedule. As at this moment I have written 15,006 words for the month -- well, I've actually written a good bit more than that, but that's what it's been polished down to. I'm particularly proud as on Wednesday night I stupidly -- and at the time unknowingly -- managed to erase three scenes I had written that and the previous day. Cue a good deal of wailing and gnashing of teeth, and also the heartening discovery that I can recreate scenes almost word for word when they are fresh in my memory, and that I can physically type 1725 words in 100 minutes when I know what I'm wanting to say and how to say it.

I shall now have the rest of the month off! To the rest of you, continuing good wishes for a successful conclusion.

Well, it's more than on a par with my efforts so far! I've had three days of not writing and now have to try and play catchup over the weekend. Congratulations on reaching your goal!

Sounds good, TJ! (Do we ever get to see anything you've written? :p)

I'm at 22,000 words but I have a problem. I've nearly finished my story.

Thanks, TDZ and Mouse.

I'm sure you'll catch up, TDZ, so good writing over the weekend. Mouse, that is more of a problem. Are you allowed to write two stories to get to the 50,000?

As to showing anything I've written... well, I'm only 64 posts from my 2,000th, and venerable traditions cannot be allowed simply to wither and die, even if no one else knows of them...

I hope so, cos that's my plan!

Ah cool, I'll keep an eye out in 64 posts time then!

I think you can write however many stories you want. You could write a billion (my maths may be off here) 75-word stories if you wanted to.

I'm pretty proud. Even in the middle of all my end-of-year assignments I've almost caught up the 2 days that I missed completely!

On the other hand, my story is just rambling on and on. It ended up being absolutely nothing like I'd planned. I haven't even got into any action yet :|

At 22,900 words, my story's finished! So gonna go for something else.

Good that you've caught up, digs!

Just about to pick up today at 38,662, and my earlier worries that I didn't have 50k of story have proved unfounded. With what's left, I should be looking at around 60-65,000 words total.

Anyway, off to work...

And you have a JOB???!!!!
LOL. I do, but not on Sundays. I was just off to start my day's writing - which I wish was my job.:p

I have to admit, I've found the going pretty easy this year. A lot of that probably comes down to my planning, but in part it's down to the fact that I've done little else but write while I've been at home. I've done at least 2-3 hours a night after work, and maybe double that at weekends. It also helps that this is my seventh Nano in a row: I'm used to planning ahead for it, and attuned to the discipline of hitting daily targets. I only wish I was this productive the rest of the year.

The other thing I should mention is that when I do Nano I tend to get stupidly competitive with myself. If I do 2000 words one day, the next day I won't be happy unless I do 2100, and so on. After a while it gets silly and I stop, but it helps me to motor along in the first week or so.;)

I have truly impressed myself, and I'm not easily impressive. Although I'm still running three days behind, I've made it to 20,000 words!

If I break my arm patting myself on the back, then I can't write, so I'd better get my nose back to the grindstone, my shoulder to the wheel, and my eyes on the stars.

...and rest. I'm done. Or, at least, my 50k is done. I've still got around 10-15k to do on the novel, but as far as nano's concerned, I'm finished for another year.

Well, apart from cheering my fellow nano-ers from the sidelines, anyway.:)
