There is already a thread which asks which ASOIAF charcter is your favorite, and I think another one which asks which are you most like. This thread isn't one of those.

If you could live as one of the characters in the series, which would it be? You are free to choose any character in any of the books.

Clearly, many, if not all, of the major characters have an upside and a downside.

Jaime is rich, handsome, smart, but minus his dominant hand

Tyrion is smart, in exile, and a dwarf

Jon is young, healthy and a strong leader, but he's stuck at the Wall

Dany is young, beautiful, still in exile and can never have children

Arya, Brienne, Bran, Sansa, Cersei, Samwell, Asha, Davos, are all possibilities. You could even pick Dolorous Ed, Melisandre, Stannis, Varys, Littlefinger, Jaqan, etc.

Please give some idea of why you chose the character you did.

It's a tough choice for me. Dany is very appealing, but I'm not sure i'd want to live life as a woman, not that there's anything wrong with women. Jon is very appealing, but I hate the cold. He has some interesting times in store for him though, and i don't think he'll always be confined to the North. I also love Ghost. Littlefinger is also a very attractive character for me. I admire his intelligence and political acumen. I'm not sure how long he'll survive though. Varys is also interesting, as I'm not 100% convinced he really is a eunuch, and there may be a lot more to him than meets the eye. Jaqan is one of my favorite characters, but he's too minor of a character, at least for now

I guess I'll go with Jon, with Dany being a close second.

Robert Baratheon. Yes, he's dead. But when he lived he seemed to live in excess. When he was young he was fierce, strong and led men. Neds descriptions of him make him seem almost invincible. As king he obviously didnt lack for anything. Food, alcohol, women (though not his wife).
In a land that is so harsh and can be so cruel, I'd want to be able to live with as much pleasure as I could find.

Arya, because she's wild and one of the fiercest girls(her and Brienne) I mean, I guess Sansa is pretty brave considering what she's been through but she's so blind and trusts too easily believing whatever Petyr tells her just because he loved her mother(whom I also hate lol), wheras Arya is more wary, and more vengeful. Much like me in some ways, though she's probably much braver xP

Also if I was a guy I'd like to be Rhaegar. I know he doesn't really count as much of a character because he's dead before the story has begun(although one could argue that thestory began before the words we read on the page) but it seems to me that, although Aerys was a tad cruel(understatement of the century) Rhaegar was noble and valiant and did what was needed of him. Except for running away with Lyanna.(I don't believe he kidnapped her)

Arya's one of my favorites

I think that you might be underestimating Sansa though. She's been learning under a master, much as her sister has been, and I think the time will come, probably sooner rather than later, when Sansa will surpass Littlefinger and the result will be his demise.

I do think she's changing, I disliked her more when she was all over Joffrey. And I liked her when she was with Sandor. But although I say I really hate her, she's one of my favourite POV characters, wheras I wasn't too keen to read about Catelyn though it was necessary. G.R.R.M sure does have a knack of sending his 'main' characters to totally different places doesn't he? He can scarcely leave any two characters in the red keep for long, they have to get out and see the world! and probably end up dying but hey.. :p

Living at the citadel might be fun. The scenery seemed rather heartwarming, also it's a bit warmer than on the wall.

But as this is a fantasy world, I think it'd be rather boring to choose a student's life here too...so i'd rather go with Jon, *spoiler* he gets to be with a hot redhead (sadly dies, but who knows maybe he'll get himself a new one *wink wink*), has an awesome white direwolf and as a captain of the Night's Watch the rooms he resides in shouldn't be too shabby either!

Wasn't Ygritte kind of plain looking with crooked teeth?
Kissed by fire, yes. Kissed with looks, I'm not so sure...

If it turns out that he's not a eunuch, I'd say that there's definitely a bit more to him than meets the eye. ;):)

(Sorry, but someone was going to say it and I don't mind the groans.)

That would be LORD COMMANDER of the Night's Watch :D

Might that new redhead's name star with an M and end with an E? :)

In all seriousness, this is a pet theory that I think may turn out to be true, as opposed to some of my more crackpot ones, like Euron being the 3 eyed crow, or at least his missing eye being the crow's third one:D

Wasn't she plain at first, then he got to know her, and appreciated her hair and body etc.

At the minimum, I must agree with ss on this one... Jon's taste in women is definitely lacking. Ygritte had bad teeth (proving once again that Westeros is England), red hair (Ireland... and I personally think that red hair is a genetic defect), freckles (yuck), and she bathed less than once a year (proving that Beyond the Wall correlates to Scotland). Insert smiles now...

Dacey Mormont... mmmmm. I like tall, athletic, graceful, brown hair... Although I do admit that description also matches Renly... Doh!!!

Who would I choose to be? Easy. Barristan Freaking Selmy. No brainer.

Who would I actually be? Pate the failed dead acolyte of the Citadel. Incessant dreamer with zero talents or wisdom.

Maybe because he's really noble and took a vow etc. and he had to sleep with Ygritte but I guess he's the only woman he's ever been 'intimate' with so tbh he hasn't had that much experience with choosing a decent gal

Yeah, I'm just kidding... Jon was stuck between cockney and a hard place. It's actually not a difficult choice... hump or death.

hmmm... whom would i Choose to be?
tough choice indeed.

in all honesty i'd choose Renly. he's all about fun, and glitz... very much a case of style over substance (tho Ned's POV is skewed by the fact he sees Renly still as Robert's baby brother. Catelyn's showed a far more mature side to the young Baratheon), but still having substance. He's smart, clever, handsome (and doesn't he know it), knows the game very well - it was magic after all... magic most foul even... that defeated him. Not the Game. Not enemy armies. Mel's magic. (i could even handle having two Tyrell's sitting by my side... Loras and Margaery certainly have their own...assets)
Had magic not played a part in this series (as perhaps we'd all hoped when we delved into a fresh new fantasy setting seemingly devoid of the usual fantasy trappings - no elves, no magic, no dwarves...hmmm turns out we've got them all) then Renly would be sitting on the Iron Throne, and the Seven Kingdoms would be six (or five). And existing in relative peace, moving towards the inevitable Winter and controntation with The Others.
Who am I most like? Hmmm in many ways i'm actually rather like Sandor. He's gruff and seems to hate everyone equally, but in his heart he's actually rather nice, its just difficult for him to show, and even more difficult to show, since its dominated utterly by hatred for Gregor. I don't have Gregor-like-hate to deal with, thankfully. But overall, Sandor is perhaps the character i most readily identify with - personality wise, not in appearance nor in actions.

So you haven't noticed the predominant colour of your avatar then...?
Doh!!! Big Bear, I must confess that I'm probably the most inobservant person I've ever known.

You know it's the holidays now... and I tend to end up watching movies with family and friends... favorite movies. Last night I watched The Princess Bride with my niece and nephew... it was their first time. It was a lot of fun. Anyway, I was thinking of other faves... and I was desiring to see A Fish Called Wanda again. I love that movie. Palin, Kline, Cleese and Curtis just k-k-k-kill each others c-c-c-cultures. I dunno the actress that plays Cleese's wife, but she was awesome... "Mr. Manfredjendensen" and "You can stick this marriage right in your bottom."

But I'd still choose to be Barristan Freaking Selmy.

Edit: It's good to be the king.

dg, except for Renly's love of rainbows (allegedly), I'd like to be Renly, too. He's hilarious. He's adored by the crowds. And he dresses impeccably.

My favourite line in that movie:

"Oh no! K-k-k-ken is c-c-c-coming to k-k-k-kill me!", as Palin (driving a pavement roller) bears down on Kline (who is unaware that he is stuck in cement). First time I saw that I almost peed myself laughing!
