Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Dang it! Fourth place is a terrible one.

Anywho. Found a spare few minutes/hours when I really should have been working. Votes have been decided upon and will be posted up in about thirty seconds from now.

Congratulations to Mouse, The Judge and Culhwch!

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

When is the deadline, does anyone know?

It's not as bad as nearly last Saph.

Fourth, it's like looking up to the tallest building on earth. A long way a way from me:)

Onwards and hopefully upwards:)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Wow, I wasn't expecting to find myself tied for first place when I checked in on the voting today. Many thanks for the votes, alchemist, Hoops, No One, Sapheron and SJAB.

There will be an extension of the deadline, due to the recent downtime. It's currently being discussed, and we'll post the date and time when we make a decision...

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Oooh! Thanks, Sapheron! Can't believe I've got four! Next time I'm going to try to use all 300 words. (Thanks to people who've mentioned me too!)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Just realized that I never looked at the poll after I voted cause it doesn't show any new post . And I wasn't expecting any votes. So, how floored was I to find TWO votes! THANKS FOR THE MIS-CLICKS Moonbat and Slack!:D

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

I found choosing the winners even more difficult than usual, not just because of the high standards shown by each entry but because there was so much more to compare. nevertheless, I've managed to come to my decision.

Honourable Mentions:
  • Ho Ho Ho! Sychronicity by Perpetual Man
  • Ten to Death by Mouse
  • Time and Son by digs
Runners Up:
  • Time After Time by mosaix
  • Grim Tidings by Aun Doorback
  • A Clockwork Heart by Culhwch
Winners:
  • A birth of cosmology by chrispenycate (which would probably have received my vote if I'd had just the one)
    [*]Interspecies Diplomacy by Moonbat
    [*]Boxing Day Dinner
    by Boneman

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

I'm in a hurry here, because my computer is about to disappear -- for hours or days, I'm not sure which -- so I will just say that there is going to be an extension on the voting deadline, but we are still trying to figure out how long. It is unlikely to be a very long extension, however, so if you haven't voted yet, watch this thread to find out how much time you have left.

In the meantime, for those who have already voted, it might be a good idea to check and see that your votes actually do appear on the poll -- just in case some of them disappeared during the recent attack on the site or during the subsequent repairs.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

I also had difficulty separating my top four. As soon as I'd voted, I almost wished I could have changed it - but I suspect I would have felt that way no matter how I voted. I voted for mosaix, Precise Calibre and Cul. I won't torment the fourth by naming them :p

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

OK -- a quick note to confirm the extended time for voting.

The new deadline is midnight ** GMT on Wednesday 18th May.

** OK, 11.59pm if we're being pedantic.

Hurry up and vote all those who haven't yet... (Yes, I know that means me. I've been busy, all right?!)

PS Nagging the late voters can start in earnest now.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

I hope people will remember that when I voted, I thought it was the last possible day on which to do so.

(I'd hate to lose my reputation as a procrastinator.)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Thank you so much, Ursa, for the vote! It's going to be close, and with three votes, it's turning into a three horse race...

Maybe if there's a tie, the winners choose the prize between them, and shuttle the book back and forth...;):)

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Well, I've voted. I've been holding back as I wanted to go through the stories again - there are so many that I want to give special mentions to. But, what with one thing and another, I've just not had the time I needed to do that.

However, the stories I voted for were the ones that I kept thinking about after my initial shortlisting. I think it's the romantic in me, but the expression of love in each of these tales really moved me, and so I voted for

Mosaix - Time after Time
The Judge - Sun and Moon and Earth
Boneman - Boxing Day Dinner

I'm hoping that I will get enough time to actually add in the special mentions but I need to read them through again to be sure - hopefully tomorrow night.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

And a really big thank you, Stormfeather, for that vote.

Dang, I've only just realised that the votes show in alphabetical order, rather than chronological. I hope I thanked everyone, but if not: thank you everyone - it feels amazingly good to get even one vote, so to have this many is wonderful.:)

Where's that "evil grin" smiley when you need it? And when have you ever known me not be pedantic?

According to my list, there are thirteen story posters who have not yet voted;- Chel, cornelius, Culhwch, Exploder666, Gary Compton, Goldenapples, HairBrain, paranoid marvin, Precise Calibre, StormFeather, Templar, The Judge & The Spurring Platty.

In addition, we are very grateful to two recent additions to our number who have voted despite not being morally obliged to do so; let's hear it for LL and MM, not Lois Lane and Minnie Mouse, but the lovely Lola and Mink Mopsy.

Way to go on the name & shaming Chrispy - except that I cast my vote yesterday (although only mentioned it this morning). Don't forget that the voters are shown in alphabetical order, not in the chronological order of voting . . .

But please keep on nagging everyone else - it'd be nice to actually get more votes than stories for once:D

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

I'd have thought Gary would have voted by now, if only to cover his...

...future embarrassment.

Re: DISCUSSION, 300 Word Challenge, April

Congrats to The Boneman for his marvellous victory. Very well done, a distinct and moving story. :)

Thanks to Nixie, MstrTal, Mouse and Ursa for their votes.
And thanks to the mods for creating another fabulous challenge.

Roll on the July challange :)
