GOT discussion for aSoIaF readers (SPOILERS)

Hmm...some commentary on whether HBO might need to split ASoS into two seasons. Would they be cruel enough to stop a season with The Red Wedding and force viewers to wait 3-5 months for the "good bits" of ASoS? That might actually cause viewers to tune out completely :p

You know, I always remember a lot of detail from the book Game of Thrones, but I remember little after.

I think if Brienne has only one scene, Melissandre has only one scene, Stannis has only two scenes, and we never see the Onion Knight, then Season 2 will be barely any the worse for it. :D

Agree all those scenes were fantastic! They are done so well, they invest you as a viewer (and fan) even more in the characters.

After Ned's head was chopped and the silence when it faded to black and the credits started rolling, Mrs. TK and myself just sat there in stunned silence. It had such a powerful effect.
TK- I couldn't agree with you more. My sister and I watched as well and I was shocked by the magnitude and power of it. It was just so beautifully and brilliantly done.

I wasn't entirely sold on Joffery at the onset, but the actor has definitely won me over. He's fabulous, and every bit the evil little monster Joffery is supposed to be. I loved his little flourishes with the "but they have the soft hearts of women..." bit. Excellent.

*(&$(&^@**&@#()_* ---- WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Bronn told Tyrion, my dear Brian, "Keep low".

I have to say I wasn't that upset that they skipped over the battles. I would much rather have them spend the time and money on other aspects of the story.

Generally speaking, if there isn't enough money to do a decent battle, they usually end up looking silly and unbelievable anyway.

The battles arn't really all that big of a deal in GOT in my opinion. Like L o Winterfell stated, the story and character plights/plots are way more important. Like the tourney scenes, if they couldn't afford to show two sizable armies on the field (or a sizable audience for the tourney) it would have ended up looking silly, like the tourney did (for readers anyway).

Now next season, however, they are going to NEED to up the ante. Some of the battles are front and center, and much more important to the story. They will NEED to at least show a few moments of a couple of them, and others in their entirety.

They better have a bigger budget next year.

It isn't as if the book shows a lot of Robb's capture of Jamie (given that it's in one of Cat's chapters). But it's a shame that they weren't able to afford to depict Tyrion's exploits.

Here's hoping that they've put enough funds aside for the episode for which GRRM is providing the script in season 2.

I've no real problem with them not showing the battles in this season.

I do have a bit of a problem with them having Tyrion knocked out like some chump before the battle. Think that could've been handled better considering he handled himself quite well in the fight.

Also, the scene with them bringing Jaime out of the woods could've been handled a bit better. For non-readers I imagine it must've been slightly confusing until you watch the episodes back to back.

I admit I never put that much thought into Shae as a character...but did she really have a foreign accent?
Of course I have the tendency of imagining stuff completely differently...
For some reason I also thought Shagga was a black man. Thinking back I really don't know why...

Not sure if anyone saw these, and I'm sure there are others, but here is a parody of Game of Thrones. This is the link to Episode 1, which is alright. Episode 2 did have me chuckling a bit though.

Interesting interview with the TV guys at Winter is Coming, discussing Season Two, for anyone who may not have seen it:

Sounds like Jaime's role in the second season is going to be much increased, which I don't think will really surprise anyone. So long as he gets to deliver his "There's only me" line, I can live with it. :p I like the idea of the season possibly ending with him losing his hand. That's the kind of shocker that makes people tune in again. (Or maybe smash their TV in disgust!)

EDIT: You should probably read the original article, which has more of the interview.

Sean Bean read the book(s) before filming started. I think this is their way to say that Ned may be seen again in a flashback or a dream. The operative word is "may".

Hopefully when we meet the Crannogman of Greywater watch we'll get a full recounting. I swear when I read those chapters(providing they're written) I will need a new sofa having despoiled it in my excitement.

Doesn't Ned appear to Bran in a dream when they're in the crypt hiding?
Also I think he turns up in the dreams of Jaime(?) or was it Brienne?

Anyways I could see room for him to make a fleeting appearance or two.
