GOT discussion for aSoIaF readers (SPOILERS)

I think there is more chance of Benjen turning up again than Ned. could Benjen be linked to ColdHands and the 3 eyed crow? IE staying out of the way and waiting for Bran as certain events have to fall just right and the black brothers needed to think he was dead or Mormont would not have taken them North and Jon would not be Lord Commander and know about Dragon glass and he wouldn't have switched babies and sent Sam to study etc. Initially Mormont went to find Benjen and to suss out the situation beyond the wall

Back to Syrio for a sceond. I was just re-watching the fight scene. At the end of it when Arya is running away you can hear the sound of steel on steel, even though our last picture of Syrio is of him with a broken wooden sword. Food for thought...

I only watched it the once, but I got the impression that both the sounds of swordplay and the screaming that Arya heard were not only (or perhaps not even) from the room she just left, but from other parts of the keep - the Lannister's men finishing off any remaining Starks.

I will hold back on the list of Benjen and Coldhands and 3-eyed crow threads (for now!).

Theon is the POV that is returning.

I believe you are right. Several months ago I ended up looking up ADWD on wikipedia and it had the chapter names laid out, I noticed Theon was one.

Theon was just about present in one of the chapters that GRRM has already released, so his appearance in ADWD shouldn't be too much of a shock....;)

Having just watched it again I think you are correct. He has still left the door open for debate and as the writer of this episode I thought GRRM might put all the rumours to bed.

And the mystery of what really happened to Syrio continues. Mayhaps Arya will find him in the House of Black and White in Braavos.

I actually really liked how the actor playing Meryn Trant says: "Kill the Braavosi!" Very well done.

In the books, Ned was definitely killed.

Syrio you presumed to have been killed, too - it's a classic self-sacrificing heroic death we've seen in TV SFF scenes before, ie, Patrick Stewart in Dune, and Gandalf in Fellowship - however, considering that Syrio was a master swordsman, and none of his foes were, means that there is plenty of room for him to have escaped, if the writer so wishes it.

But then Gandalf did reappear (albeit after a visit to the costume deptartment). ;):)

As did the "voice" of Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars episode 4.)

Aha! But Gandalf came back! Also, the Stewart character Gurney Halleck came back too in one of the later books.

See, I too think that Syrio's fate was left unambiguous for him to come back later. Hey, maybe he's been put in jail in King's Landing and he made it to the Wall? Who knows? :D

By the way, at first, I thought Forel was a translation but imagine the surprise when it was his actual last name. The cool thing is that forel means trout in Dutch. Fitting name for a waterdancer, right? :)

So Gandalf is coming to join Danys!?
He already did. The white dude is just going by the name of Barristan Selmy.
Don't believe me?

1)Changed his name after reaveling himself
(from Arstan to Barristan) check
2) has a white beard (was nicknamed whitebeard) check
3) is of old age check
4) is somewhat a guidance councillor check
5) kicks butt in battle check
6) wears white clothing (white cloak, ...) check

Gandalf is everywhere !!

That was a frustrating episode! Where the ending was fantastic, and Tyrion/Shae/Bronn was great, oh, and Varys/Ned scenes were great - I felt a bit ripped off with there being no battle scenes, and no explanation of what happened during the battle.

I'm pleased they're really getting right into Dani's storyline now, and am looking forward to next week's final episode! I wonder if they'll do the dragons suckling scene?

Oh, and Joffrey and Littlefinger are both portrayed so well, I can feel my body tense whenever they are on screen coz I hate them so much! lol

I second everything you said X'Nedra!

I have some big grips but will not post them here.

Loved, loved Tyrion/Shae/Bronn, very well done. We got to hear Tyrion's story and it added some depth to Shea.

The Dany parts get better and better! I am sure now that I will get all girly and cry when Drogo gets zombiefied!

The actor playing Joffery (sorry can't remember his name) is fantastic! I swear my head explodes everytime I see him! My non-reader hubby is like "will somebody kill that little p..... already!" Cracks me up!

Really, really loved how the execution scene was done! The eye contact between Ned/Arya and Ned/Yoren was beautifully done!

Agree all those scenes were fantastic! They are done so well, they invest you as a viewer (and fan) even more in the characters.

After Ned's head was chopped and the silence when it faded to black and the credits started rolling, Mrs. TK and myself just sat there in stunned silence. It had such a powerful effect.
