A Dance with Dragons ships early...

E-Books are awesome, you can get them anywhere in the world as long as they are available for purchase.
But...bookshelfs dude. BOOKSHELFS!

On the one hand I'd love the 5th to match my softcover ones...but can I wait that long? Probably not.

Should we start up a poll?
The question being, who will buckle and search the internet for spoilers....

I'm so hoping i can keep myself in check.

PS: Will moderators be keeping this forum clean, like with the westeros forum?
Or will the members have to look out for themselves?
And if it's the second, how big will the lynching party be if someone does the nasty?
Will viruses and others equivalent things in the internet world for pitchforks and knives be sent?
Will a hate-site, youtube-films, ... be made so as to ridicule this forummer?
And which forummer is it that secretly hopes for this type of notorious fame?
(See it all in the next few weeks on sffchronicles !!!)
I assume that 99.9% of all posters will be considerate and ethical in the way that they post. It's the .1% that worries the hell out of me. I've seen too many sociopathic miscreants on various forums overs the years to be able to beleive that this particular little "Garden of Eden" will remain unspoiled. Evemn the best of Mods can't monitor a site 23/7.

The only real way of controlling this possibility would be to ban all new accounts until after the release date, but i wouldn't expect that given the nature of the site, and it wouldn't be 100% foolproof in any case.

As for retribution, the people who would do this would probably crave the negative attention, so anything short of actual physical violence (which I certainly don't advocate) would be futile.

I said it half in jest last night, but I now really believe that the prudent course of action is to avoid all ASOIAF related sites for the next couple of weeks

I'm going to scan for spoilers and hope there are no griefers.

Guess I'm a risk taker!

We'll do our best, but you've got to remember that this isn't a dedicated GRRM site like that one is, so not all the mods will know what to look for.

I'll start a thread prior to release for Dance discussion, label it clearly as containing spoilers, and stick it to the top of the GRRM board, but that doesn't doesn't idiot-proof us. As the Imp says, it just takes one unthinking individual to post a spoilerific thread title to ruin it for everyone...

I'm not too worried about people here at Chrons. Unless someone who doesn't like the series goes to a bookstore and tries to find a spoiler with the express purpose of ruining others reading experience. (and what would that say about them?)

I just hope I don't accidentally come across something while on the internet. I can't avoid it altogether for an additional two weeks!

I've only read the official "Jon, Tyrion, and Dany" and unofficial "Reek" chapters and I'm half kicking myself now as i want to read the book without any prior knowledge of what's going on.

Question: Does anyone know if any of the chapters mentioned above were one of those that may have been cut or changed when doing his final edits, and archived to the University?

That they're channeling Joffrey...?

LMAO!! You just can't quash that evil Lannister spirit. :D

I'm subscribed to a few fantasy blogs via Google Reader, and I trust the sites themselves not to post anything prior to release (or at least to label it clearly). The problem is with the comments, but since they don't show up in my RSS feeds, I'm hoping I'll be OK. I'm more worried that I'll read something on Twitter, but I'm addicted to Twitter like some people are addicted to crack, so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. :p

I'm 26% through my A Feast for Crows re-read so happy to wait till the 12th, just have to switch on my kindle wifi so it downloads on the day.

I will buy the paperback once its out so goes with the rest on my bookshelves :)

I'd be shocked if any spoilers reached this forum. The reason I like it here is because we seem to be so isolated. It's a small community here and I think for the most part we all respect each other. It's probably more likely to happen at Westeros which is a lot more well-known. That's a huge ASOIAF hub and from what I've seen they can be pretty mean to each other. There's an entire sticky there about getting flamed! Anyway, I think we'll be fine.

Expect spoilers here the day it's published!!

I think it's fair game once the book's published, though I would expect people to use spoiler tags as a courtesy. But reading spoilers before the book is officially released is a bit rubbish.

Becasue of shupping i'm only getting the book at the start of August.
I'm heading into a tough 4 weeks. The last few clicks before the finish really are the hardest.

Great minds think alike (must be a Canuck thing) ;)

I too, Clansman, will be on holidays making that all-too Canadian summer trek to the cottage by the lake with a case of beer and a copy of ADWD. Albeit, I will be first in line at the nearest Chapters on July 12th and then bring my copy back to the lake and the beer.

Well, we Canadians are naturally more intelligent...;)

Camping out (at Chapters, that is...)? I was at the cottage all weekend. Glorious summer weather. I think winter has finally been thawed out of my bones.

Things always slip through, though. I certainly knew too much of what was coming in Storm of Swords from the forums before I read it, so the RW was no surprise, which killed the shock value.
