A Dance with Dragons - Discussion - WARNING: SPOILERS!

I thought we would see Valyria at some point, probably on Dany's journey to Westeros even if only a dragon's eye view! There are a few other places too that seem like we would see them at some point before the end of the series.. Casterly Rock being one, there are others I've thought of but I can't think of them now.

Good news about Bronn. Other that that, he's not giving much away is he?

But would you rather be kidnapped, tortured, and made to write by Cathy Bates or Tywin Lannister?

neither. Just like George, I'd rather write slowly (but surely) to present a perfect story. And just like George, I would want to write something unpredictable. c:

Agreed. Loved reading the book but really hope TWOW moves the story on somewhat!

There is apparently only 2 books left in the series, so the next two must be faster paced than the last two have been. I'm guessing things will just suddenly fall into place, like Wheel of Time is doing now.

Of course the next two books will be doorstops, that's a granted. He is cutting out PoV characters as it is, Cersei is likely done for the series, with exception of possibly minor scenes. Her final scenes felt just that, final.

Of course we are all in wait and see mode but I have to disagree about Cersei. I seriously doubt she survives till the bittersweet end but she is far from done. With Kevan dead she is back in charge, she will do whatever she has to in order to stay there.

Cersei must be the most powerful and best-connected Lannister left in Westeros, whatever the Septic Sisters™ think, so I believe that she'll be around for some while.

And just like Dany, won't she be the subject of many suitors wishing to get their hands on the Lannister gold? And won't those suitors do quite a lot of things at her bidding in order to stay in the running?

It's my belief (I've written this before on these forums) that Varys killed Kevan specifically so that Cersei would come back to power. When Cersei is in charge the Kingdom is basically in chaos because she's a ridiculously awful ruler. I don't think she's ever made a good decision. That sets up everything perfectly for Dany or Aegon (or Jon?) to sweep in and take over to bring the Targaryens back to power.

I.e. Cersei is far from done in this series. Her first act will be to exact some serious revenge on the Faith for what they did to her. The Silent Sisters will have to be renamed the Screaming Sisters. And can you think of anything more chaotic than basically declaring war on the most popular organized religion in the Kingdom? It's going to be fun to read.

It would be interesting if he did that. It seems like Petyr and Varys are often moving toward opposite ends: Petyr last said that Cercei was going to have to be removed (and the Kettleblacks are his catspaws), then she ends up in a cell and on trial for the faith. Kevan tells her that she's going to have to leave King's Landing, then Kevan is killed by Varys. I think the real game is Petyr and Varys, everyone else just think's they're playing.

A note about Jon: I don't believe he's dead. We usually only see people die from somebody else's POV and he was still feeling when we left him. I don't really think there's a question as to if he's dead, but more how and to what extent he is alive. Even if they killed him, he'd be in his second life as Ghost. A second life that is "fit for a king".

Either one is preferrable to a Bolton... Roose, Ramsay, or Michael.

Lol, Screaming Sisters!!! Brilliant!!! I almost feel sorry for Cersei if she's stupid enough to tackle the Faith with so little support behind her. It has the potential to be very, very, ugly - and I for one wouldn't know who to cheer for. I hate Cersei, but that new High Septon (is that his title, I can't remember?) is simply scary in his fanatical, over-zealous, devotion.

Any chance they might destroy each-other?

Yes, a war of this type has the potential to hurt a lot of people, all the folks who have come to the Seven for protection. Still, they are rather dangerous and irrational - difficult to predict and control in the GoT. All those machiavellian manipulators behind the scene must be grinding their teeth!

I'm not so sure about this. With the track the church has been on, and with the emerging prominence of other forms of faith encroaching on the kingdom, I think a lot of people who are unhappy with the brand of faith the High Septon is selling could potentially find themselves inspired by Cersei's cause. And lest we forget, she is fantastically good at flattering and manipulating people.

Ultimately a war on the church would be ugly for all involved, and delicious to watch as a reader, but I do think Cersei would have quite a bit of support from people who are ready for a "different way".

Does anyone have ideas about what Euron Crows Eye is hiding behind that eye patch?

I had assumed it was used to cover an injury, that is generally there use, but upon rereading Victarion thinks something like " I can feel him looking at me, both with his smiling eye and with the one he hides from the world."

So what's behind the patch?!
