Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Ok, I was just thinking that Teresa hasn't voted yet, and then I realized that, unless I'm blind, she didn't enter a story either! Did I miss something? Where be the lady?

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Busy with other things. Tired. I decided to give it a miss this month.

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Oh, well, I'm glad to see you're still around, anyway, TE! I was starting to worry.

Congrats, Hex, on a hard-run race and a well-deserved win!

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congrats, Hex! I look forward to your genre and theme for September!

Many thanks for the votes alchemist, Karn, and Southron Sword, and thanks also to those who mentioned my story! All very much appreciated!

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

FOOOM!

As bits of me float back to earth, I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me (especially Ursa - because I didn't thank you before).

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congrats, Hex! Well-deserved.

And thanks to TEiN and Boneman for lazily voting for the first entry.

Quite a tough month, though -- at least two stories on my (and many others') shortlist got no votes at all.

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congratulations Hex! Very much deserved.

And thanks for the mention, Ursa.

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Many congratulations Hex, a very worthy winner

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Grovelling admiration, Hex; you already knew I'd judged it best.

And thanks, Starbeast; I wasn't expecting even mentions from this month, not my genre, concentration poor, travelling a lot, so it was nice to know it appealed to someone.

And I'm sorry about never giving a short list; my method of marking really doesn't lend itself to that means of expression, and if I started mentioning the points I found good in stories it wouldn't be short. More like Perp's analysis, actually.

I did manage an alternative (write what you know) but only cut it down to size – or built it up to size (it wanted to be 49 words or 125) after posting the other.

If music feed the bee of love.

The final violin mutilator filed from the classroom, the keyboard players and electric guitarists were in headphones, computer programs doing half the painful preparatory training…

Albert sighed with relief. He taught no vocalists or percussions. His saxaphonist had been with him two terms and was no longer producing toneless squeals. What horrors could the new term bring to one who had taught woodwinds, brass, digerydoo ?

The page in the calendar held one word.

Bagpipes.

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congratulations Hex! A fab story and a worthy winner.

And, on a slightly related note, the inspiration for my entry came from the case of the Hexham Heads.

Great stories everyone. Looking forward to next months theme :D

And Thanks to No One for the mention - enough to brighten a grey, soggy day in the peak district!

Forgot to mention in my Congrats post, and in case people don't use New Posts, I've amended the Rules thread to incorporate changes discussed and decided upon in various Discussion threads, so it's a bit tidier now.

EDIT: Chris -- that is a horror story!

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Anne: Thanks for the vote. Now I can can face the time we all have left with the remnants of a smile. :)

Thanks to everyone that had me in their shortlists.

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

* Wonders whether TheEndIsNigh has a particular advantage regarding the production of very short stories.... *

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congratulations Hex!

Now, take a deep bow and enjoy the applause!!!

Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!!! :D

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge

Congratulations Hex
Brilliant entry and well deserved win. I shall never look at my cat the same way when I get home.

Ok, some of my other possible entries. Seeing as I didn't get a vote (got a few mentions) might be that I entered the wrong one.

Man Hunt!

The closing lid devours the last, lingering sliver of light.
I lay petrified, apnoeic, my heart beating a thunderous rhythm in my ears.
They clatter around the room, tossing furniture aside to find me, even banging on the box in which I hide.

Then they leave.

I’m safe, for now.
I try moving but the lid is too heavy…I’m stuck!
Something hairy slowly brushes against me.
Where does Grandpa keep his tarantula?

Tag! You’re IT

This isn’t a game anymore, although it started in the playground.
The girls were running from Tommy, the caretaker’s lumbering moron of a son, calling him brain-dead, but then Jenny slipped.

He grabbed her.

She screamed.

The laughter ceased.

She stumbled into the arms of Mike and Trudy, they screamed too.
Then everybody was running or screaming.

It quickly snowballed, only I remain untouched.
They’re still chasing me.
I’m exhausted.
This isn’t a game.
