Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Posting earlier in the month makes things much more simple. 20 days to sit back and relax now.

And then get a new idea two days after posting that is nothing short of genius ;)

Yes! I hope I will keep getting inspired earlier in the months from now on.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Hmmmm. Well I'm going to post mine early too, with having a week off I don't want to be too distracted. But which one... which one!!

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe....

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Go with moe!

It rhymes, so it must be right.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Mine came quickly and was 168 words long. Distilled down to 75 makes it less technicolor, but perhaps more sinister.

*diverts creative juices to next cup in line*

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Very nice theme, first submission since I joined so we'll see how things go. Challenges seem very fun though and i love how everyone gets so into them! :) New favorite writing site.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I'm back, folks. I missed July because I was on holiday and August because I was just too disorganised! (I had an idea for that one, too).

I think my story is a bit obvious this month, but you can't win them all. At least I didn't base it on folklore this time (Just history!).

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I've never tried one of these but it looks fun and yields some interesting results. I've enjoyed the entries thus far. :D

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Since my last post I've been struggling to make my mind up over my two attempts.

In the end I tossed a coin.

Then posted quickly before I changed my mind.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

But what if the choice was... well... edgy. ;):)

(You can avoid this by using the Piet Hein technique: toss the coin up and then see if you'd rather it landed one way than the other.)

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Some great entries so far , with Perp's being my favourite; the coin fell right side up.

It's nice to get your entry committed early; that way you get to enjoy the rest of the month's stories without having to worry about your own.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

You have a tap (faucet)?

* Wonders where his own tap is; it needs turning on. :( *

Oh yes. But I can never tell which way in on and which off, since the words have worn away.

But seriously, experience tells me that if I just concentrate on my WIP for the next couple of weeks, I won't be bothered by new "Behind the Scenes" stories. Then by the time voting comes around, the creative juices start to seep through again and I start getting random 75 word story ideas.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Well, I have posted my very first Seventy-Five Word Challenge! I hope it's not too awful and, if it is, you'll be gentle with me!

Never fear! The challenges are not open for critique, only admiration and discussion. If you want critique after the contest ends you can post your story in the "improving our stories" discussion thread. Then negative as well as positive feed back is allowed.

So many good entries already! This looks to be a good month. I'm excited for more now.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I too have a favourite. And I'm not biased. Not this time. And it comes from my own hearth Mrs Lumme. It requires talent to get 75 words together and in such fashion. I'm not allowed to critique, but I will show you where I think you can expand it a little in order to get a really good hook for a 2000 word long short story.

I also would like to see doing an Entry to the 300-word challenge. That's a short scene, but it allows writer to master on a page length pitch for a story. And dress it as a story.
