Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Ashcroft -- I can assure you that Pecival didn't make a mistake which you are likely to repeat. He used his piece to insult -- deliberately insult -- another member of the forum. And if anyone here thinks of repeating it anywhere on the site, they will be looking at the wrong end of my very pointy sword.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Written but not yet posted -- still mulling it over. I'll probably post tomorrow, in the hope that Perp's review hits the stands before voting starts (it'll need all the help it can get...)

Thank you for the clarification.

I literally only wanted to know whether it's a mistake I'd be likely to repeat, but since (as your(?) moderation message makes clear) several members found his post offensive, I'm sure that I won't tread down that same path. I try to be a generally good natured guy, and constructive in my interactions; behaving in any other way just seems absurd!

It's a shame though, because he seemed like an okay guy, but I guess that's internet interactions for ya! :D

EDIT:

You know, I can't remember and from Dave's message about the reason behind it I feel it's best to keep it that way. The words "thinly veiled" usually mean that such a thing was an attempt at hiding malicious intent.

And no more is to be said from me on the matter.

I respect your forthrightness. Thank you for sticking your neck out and mentioning it at all; I can't imagine many people on this site want to relive anything unpleasant said about another forumite.

I'll henceforth drop the matter entirely.

I agree with you Ashcroft. I had a little interaction with Percival but nothing bad.

When I was writing my review for his story I did not notice a thing, (and I feel a little stoopid about that), but then I'm trying to find positive points in the stories so that might blind me to the rest. Of course having just been back and read through my comments I feel dumb all over again.

Ah well, that's life.

TJ - I'll do my best, I'm sure it will be an easy task, the good ones (and they're all good) always are.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Moonbat, Moonbat, Whatever am I going to do with you and your worthless muse anyway?:D

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

I'm on hols next week :D So just to wish everyone good luck, all brilliant so far, and I will be back and will read everything and vote before it closes. (In case I get shouted at for not voting!)

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Have a good holiday, springs. I hope the sun shines for you.

Well, I've posted. And if anyone thinks there might be a connection between last month's story and this... well, anyone might just be right... (I did promise to complete the title, after all.)

And since I'm feeling all intellectual, a prize of a virtual mandrake root for the first person to spot the reference to a metaphysical poem (let me know when you've done...)

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

I've posted, as well. The damn course is taking up so much of my time that I literally spring in and out of the Chrons like a fleet-of-foot elf in a hurry, and haven't as much time as I used to have, to comment on so many things. Ah well, reading week is here soon, I'll be able to catch up!

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Judge: you do know what mandrake root is supposed to be don't you? You'd better keep it virtual.

Boneman: I recognized the story about 20 words in, but I didn't think that you were actually going for it. I thought a simple bit of serendipity. But well done man. Well done.

(Parson says to himself: "Why didn't I think of that?")

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Give me to drink mandragora... That I might sleep out this great gap of time...

Virtual only, promise, Parson. But it's a clue...

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Genesis 30:14f.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Didn't know that one! Why do I get the feeling things go wrong afterwards...

But no -- that's not what is alluded to in my story.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

To say the least, things go wrong. But in the end God makes all things right again.

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

That'll teach me to wait this long -- now I'm stuck following TJ and TE. Oops!

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

Your story gave me a little chill down the back, TDZ.

(And thank you, hope.)

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3

You're not the only one, TE.

You're not the only two, Karn, TE.

Thanks Parson. I knew I'd never be able to slip that one past you, and had considered titling it 'A lot of trouble'... Hopefully the modern language deceived others for longer!
