Howdy,
Voting was harder than writing a story this month, my vote went to Moonbat for that letter to Santa, sounds like it came from a kid that has a lot going for himself, could grow up to be another Edison (or Frankenstein).
Thanks for the mentions and short list----made my day.
Bob

Two more mentions! Many thanks Phoenix and Parson.

The day is getting brighter and brighter, as it gets darker and darker.

I think Moonbat's is alarmingly close to my son's way of thinking! :D I may have been blinded by it's being so totally normal to me.

Wowwee Christmas Tree, I got some votes.
Thank you so much Bob and Marvin :)
I am a very happy Moonbat now, I had settled on just getting a mention (which was very nice, thank you Dusty Zebra) but then to find out I had a couple of votes. Yay! :D

I think "steam punk" as a category was to blame.
That would be my fault, and I do agree with you Parson, the neccessity of including Steam punk did take up some of the words, but I think we had a wonderful varied plethora of entries (once again) that (once again) showed off the writing skills of the Chrons.

Another crop of well-written pieces, though, like Parson, I thought more than usual were not-quite-story enough to come within my own parameters for voting.

My shortlist:

Aun Doorback -- The Trojan Plan -- a bombshell of an ending
Bob S. Sr -- Gumption -- I loved the idea of Grandma knitting those things!
Culhwch -- The Toymaker -- a lovely image and a neat twist on magic -v- clockwork
HareBrain -- Naval Engagement -- for a wonderful cad!
Hex -- The Toymaker's Legacy -- a clever last line
Quokka -- To mop and murder -- childishly sinister
reiver33 -- The House On Jeter Lane -- for the atmospheric opening

A hard choice. Some punctuations errors meant I had to downgrade a couple of entries who were in the running for the vote, but in the end I couldn't resist the idea of Grandma knitting, and the sheep refusing steel-wool coats!

Thanks for all the mentions and big thanks for the votes, PM and Parson!

Almost late, but now steaming into the last straight with the votes of the Ursa jury:

Honourable Mentions:
  • The House on Jeter Lane by Reiver33
  • Lost Boy by nixie
  • Need Revisited by Boneman
  • A Christmas Miracle by Perpetual Man
Runners Up:
  • New Haiti Mischief by The Spurring Platty
  • O Teknibaum, O Teknibaum... by chrispenycate
  • The Toymaker by Culhwch
Winner:
  • The Mechanics of Christmas Shopping by Abernovo.

* Wonders if anyone had him already pencilled in to achieve that.... *

Now he has to come up with a theme for the third time. Not exactly an enviable task. Still, December is a long month, and he has three days. (If everyone lets him wait that long.)

Congratulations, Harebrain! An excellent story, and one of my top two choices! I await the new theme with (trying frantically to remember what others HB has chosen) ...anticipation.

I---I---I------I'm---I'm, speechless! A vote and from The Judge no less. My Grandma thanks you, I thank you, and the sheep thank you.

Congrats, HareBrain

Bob

Congratulations Hairbrain! A three time winner?! Perhaps you should retire and give the rest of peons a modicum of chance? Perhaps not. Well done, I loved the story a lot. :)

Way to go go HB! An excellent win, especially when you consider the quality of the competition this month.

And thanks to Ursa for the last minute shortlisting

Thank you for the vote, Ursa - you just made my week! My first vote.

And
Congatulations HareBrain. Thoroughly deserved win.:)
