Thanks for the positive summary crit PM! - I must admit I was struggling this month and even thought I might not even post. I know it needed more work but I put it up anyway as I was going to be out on the last day of posting. Nothing ventured - nothing gained.

Hex -- very nearly didn't because I voted for her on the 75 worder. Decided that really was not a fair reason.

I'm pretty sure the I-was-born-under-wandering-star curse was good for two votes ;)

Thanks very much for the vote, AMB.

Everyone alwasy says it on these comps, but it is true - The standard is so high.

It took me ages to get a short list, and even longer to get a shorter list and then ages more to get my top 3.

But here they are, I really couldn't distinguish between them, they were so good, and a wonderfully varied range of stories. Loved them all.

In posting order

Springs1971
Reiver33
Starbeast
Pheonixthewriter
Anyakimlin
Harebrain
Alchemist
Mosaix
Perp
Teresa
Boneman
Spurring Platty
Nixie
Culhwch
Judge
Kaladan
Ursa Major

Thanks for the mentions,
AlcubierreWarp, Vertigo, Abernovo and Perp

And a big thankyou to Hopewrites for the vote :D

And, as you posted whilst I was drafting this post, you are welcome Mosaix, a truly brilliant tale, I'm not sure if I'm right but I read it that the narrator hadn't taken his/her crazy pills and so was going mad and doing stuff he/she didn't remember, like breaking the antenna himself (or herself!)

I'll let you know after the voting's finished, Moonbat. But glad you enjoyed it. :)

It's clobberin' time! Er... sorry... voting time! When the pleasure of reading all the terrific stories turns to the pain of having to select just three...I'm delighted to see Moonbat has 17 on his list, because I have 17!! (Half the entries...)

So Honourable mentions, who only missed by a whisker making the shortlist:
AMB
Abernovo
Hex (might have gone higher if she'd dumped him...)
Alchemist (Really terrific story, one of the funniest, just felt it didn't relate to the picture so well, sorry.)
Johnnyjet

The shortlist:
Reiver 33
Phoenixthewriter
Vertigo
Harebrain
Anyakimlin
Mosaix
Teresa Edginton
The Spurring Platty
Nixie
Moonbat
Ursa
Dermit

All of the shortlist deserve votes, but there can be only three... Reiver 33, Vertigo and Anyakimlin.

Thanks for the mention, Boneman.

Thanks for the honourable mention, Boneman. What do you mean she should've left him?? He sent flowers!

Cul - this is one of those stories where I sometimes feel my interpretation might well be missing the point that the writer intended.

As always, Perp, thanks for the review (and shortlisting!), although I'm afraid you are correct here. Perhaps that means you'll need to revise your shortlist...?

Many thanks for the vote, Taly, and for the mentions mosaix, hope, johnny, AMB and Moonbat. All very much appreciated!

Okay, so I've just read all the stories, and refrained from looking at the discussion thread, so as not to be swayed. In the end it was such a hard decision to have to make - even making a shortlist was nigh on impossible ... it wasn't exactly short!

Quite amazingly, it finally boiled down to a two horse race between Springs and Reiver - the first two stories, surprisingly - and it was almost impossible to seperate the two.

After a quick cup of tea, a philly bagel, and a number of re-reads later, my decision was made: I chose Springs ... but both stories were absolutely fantastic, and had me entirely captivated from beginning to end. Well done, both of you! :)
