Thank you for your kind words, Perp. "Brandy butter sauce"? I'll have to try that one day, to see what it tastes like.:) Liked the festive season theme to your reviews.

I suffer with insomnia too, so I can sympathise.

Thank goodness for that! The thought that someone found these challenges easy, is enough to make one give up!!

Never easy, sometimes easier, but always ALWAYS fun, and that is writing ones own and reading the others.

Heh, I have been thinking of a Lovecraftian take on this theme. It is a tough challenge to not read them as they come in, but I am looking forward to the end of the month and reading 42 gems as they come.

I must confess I read the first three before I remembered not to read them.

Good idea adding Lovecraft into the mix, I'd like to see that.

As for me, I have to read what's been used before I begin to formulate an idea so I don't sound similar. Culhwch's tale used a terminator idea that was in the back of my mind, but it's cool.

Hmm, must think, must think...ouch, my brain.

I currently have two ideas kicking around in my head. Music is a great inspiration but can also be a hindrance! I had what I thought was a keeper and than the next song in my "Weird/Wild West" playlist came on and now I am stuck trying to work out the logistics between the two.

Thanks for the review Perp and I sympathise. Have to say getting up in the dark to go to work and going home in the dark isn't my best time of the year. We should have latched onto this hibernation lark. Take care.

Lovecraft meets Clint eh - 'The Good, the bad and the Shoggoth' perhaps? There is a novelette called 'The cowboys of Cthulhu' by David Bain, but not a lot else. A gap in the market HB - Go for it!

and I think springs was wrong about us poser reviewers being able to take your job. ;)
What I like almost as much as reading the stories is reading the reviews, because as different as our ideas are on the theme in a given month they are almost as diverse in the enjoyment we derive from the offerings given.

new baby probably doesn't help insomnia. I know I spent the first month of my sons life laying awake listening to him breath, terrified he would stop (no reason for him to, but new mother and all) and over joyed with the miracle that humans are. because if you think about it, we just dont make any sense. *stops mid-ramble-tangent*
ahem
anyway, thanks for writing such awesome reviews, I know I havent posted anything for you to review (yet?) but I wanted to toss my thanks in all the same because I do enjoy reading them.

Oi! Some of us make perfect sense! Sometimes. Occasionally. Once in a blue moon. Auntie's old soggy teacakes.

What was I saying?

no i meant physical sense, not mental sense. I wont vouch for anyone's mental cents but my own.

Thanks for the kind words Hope; it's really good to see that you are still around, I was worried that we were going to lose you for a while.

I had no real intention of stopping writing the reviews, just felt (and feel) a little out of it at the moment. I love that other people are doing it as well, as it gives a much more open view of all the stories.

I know exactly what you mean about babies and listening insanely through the night.

But your words, and my slow burn this month (There are reasons more than just not liking the season, honest!) bring a point that I'll say now and come back to later:

As Hope points out there is a baby in the near future (April) and as such I will be stopping the comments for a while around that time! Which makes it even better that other people are doing it. (I still hope to take part in the challenges, but I think my appearances on the Chrons are going to become very sporadic!)

[shuffles feet] Sorry, sir. Wasn't deliberate, I swear. I'll do better next month, honest.
am I having deja vu or has this happened before?

also I think I just got my idea into words (thanks perp) but i'm not sure I want to post it... *shifty eyes*

Lovely review, Perp, thanks! I loved your Christmas theme.

I don't like this time of year either -- but the days are getting longer now. Yey! And I believe chocolate is good for mood (I choose to believe it -- if anyone knows differently, please don't tell me).

Hope you feel better soon.

hot dark chocolate! because nothing says comfort like something that warms you from the inside out.

I have just read the entries so far.....

Oh. My. God.

This stuff is way out of my league - I'll try to think of something but I know it just won't be anything like what has already appeared. They're all so good that I don't think I'll even be able to pick one to vote for!

Well done everybody so far!

That is high praise, thank you! Weirdly awful, or awfully weird?

Err...both, with an extra helping of the first? :D

I have a couple of ideas rattling around in my head so far, and if they ever come together it will be pretty weird, so maybe there's hope. It's looking especially tough in the competition this month!

I could never manage not to read the stories as they come in -- then I would have to forego reading this thread as well, because it would give stuff away and/or be very confusing. Robert does that, but then he doesn't live here like I do. It would never work.
