So what's the latest crackpot theory?

If he was to mary Dany, then even if they took into account the fact that the dragons might hatch, they might not be against it (thus the gift)... There are three eggs, and if Aegon is a true Targ (which he probably is, even if maybe from a ******* line) it stands to reason that he might get control of one of them. Plots within plots, and whatnot.

Given that the plan was for Aegon to marry Daenerys throws a lot of this in question. If a certain stunted Lannister hadn't stumbled into the mix, Aegon would be enroute to Mereen now.

To marry is to control, and with Dany comes 3 dragons. That part of the plan could have been hatched on the fly, pun intended I guess.

As The Imp says, Aegon was only on his way to see Dany to get (control of) the dragons. If the eggs had remained lumps of rock, Aegon would never have been headed east to Meereen.

OK small crack pot theory. And how much it'll play into things I'm not sure.I also have not seen this mentioned yet but with so many threads and posts I may have missed it.
I was noticing along with many others im aure, that all the legends myths and even old man's stories seem to have some hint of truth to them. Some more then others, and that as more time passes what was once known becomes a story that people take as supserstion of a fairy tale. I have be come more and more curious about former lord commander Mormonts raven who screams for corn and screams snows name. I originally just thought he was mormonts but he clearly passes onto snow and seems to stay by who ever is commander. Always thought it was funny but then while readying ADWD's and I'd come across the part where asha is talking w Alysant morning she seems to joke Asha
" no my children were fathered by a bear." " Mormont women are skin changers. We turn into bears and find mates in the woods. Everyone knows."
No clealry I don't think she is serious and she's being a wise to Ashabut if its a rumor joke that goes around my theory is maybe there is some truth to it. That skin changing is also in the mormont. Blood line and that once in awhile one would be born that could warg. What if the lord commander mormont. Was one? Maybe with out him even knowing or beleiving. And being on the wall he bonded with that crow. The cow was with them all in the forest and fist. And I need to go back but I think he was at crasters when he was killed too. If he could wary realizing the mutiny that was happening his last ditch effort he went into the crow?
And with this crazy thought he was fond of Jon, took him in and I believe was grooming him for a more important poaaition and possibly one day command. Sam did not plant the crow into the pot during the voting process and yet put came the crow chanting jobs name. And now as lord commander he sticks by Jons side.
If this is the case my theory ends there, wat more the role could play I'm not sire yet. I know when brand tries to enter one of the crowsor ravens. In the cave he says he feels some one else in there. Some one long gone who's become part of the animal. Maybe eventually hell be able to reach out to the ones on the wall including the commanders?
OK that's my Cack pot theory any way to pick it apart or add to it I would love to hear

If Mormont was also a warg it's possible that he knew, its also possible that he sensed Jon's connection to Ghost as the wildlings did.

This could be part of the reason he chose to groom for command instead of making him a ranger which Jon was more than suited for.

However, Mormont being a warg would account for the raven's strong attachment to both Jon and Mormont.

I also believe Jorah Mormont was exiled, by Ned Stark for selling poachers(?) to slavers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I also agree with those who think Cold Hands is Benjen Stark because he immediately recognized Bran. I believe it is stated many times that Bran, Meera, and Jojen, never actually see his face.

I'd like to mention something I've found odd about Melisandre.
She worships a god of light and says she considers darkness to be evil. However, she used "shadows" (something created by the two working together) to kill Renly, and to help lay siege to Storm's End.
Probably nothing there, but it was something I noticed.

Something I posted in a different GRRM thread. I doubt its resilience once people start biting it.
But here's a crackpot theory for you: the Wall was built by the Others, to protect and preserve their land of permanent winter. They are only stirring now because they fear the coming of Fire and the destruction of the Wall. (Let's face it, the only truly magical creatures up in the North are the Others.)

WOW. this is some really interesting stuff. IMO, the Mourmont/warg theory and the "Others built the Wall" theory each dserves a separate thread.I'll say more when my finger is healed and i can type with two hands :D

Aww, did your finger lose half its nose?

Aww, did your finger lose half its nose?

I love it!

On the Mormont/Warg theory, I think it's possible, but also just possible that the crow has the soul/essence of any former man of the NW or Lord Commander. It seemed pretty self-aware before Mormont ever died, and based on all the history that we learned in the Bran chapters it would stand to reason (and to dramatic effect) that the crow would contain the soul of someone historically significant.

I definitely agree that it is possible that it could be someone else. Perhaps the Lord Commander Brandon (I think he was a Stark) whose name was wiped from the history of the Watch because he wed an Other or something crazy like that?
That'd be a cool historic twist.

Okay.... I'm currently rereading all of Jon's chapters. I just read the arrival of the NW to the Fist of the First Men and Ghost's discovery of the dragonglass weapons. I don't quite have a theory yet, just an inkling of one...

The idea is that Ghost is being warged... and not by Jon.

Jon notices that Ghost's colorings are the same as a weirwood heart tree.... white appearance with red eyes.

Ghost finds the hand and brings it while Jon and Sam are sworn in. Ghost is not afraid of the dead as are the dogs and horses.

Ghost warns Jon of Othor's attack. Ghost engages Othor, while Jon is terror stricken.

When they arrive at the Fist, Ghost will not enter although the horses and dogs will. Later, Ghost enters and leads Jon to the cache of recently buried dragonglass daggers and arrowheads. They are wrapped in a NW cloak.

Some of Ghost's actions can be explained by loyalty to Jon and courage. But some of his actions lead directly to the NW relearning lost knowledge... So how did Ghost know to find Othor and Jafer? Once he found them, how did he know the Old Bear needed to also see the bodies? Why was he bold enough to touch the bodies when all other animals shunned them? How did Ghost know to lead Jon to the dragonglass cache? Why didn't Ghost, upon discovering something weird, just mark it with his scent and move on?

If Ghost is at least twice controlled by someone to assist the NW, who could it be? Who has the ability to control Ghost, the access to Ghost, and the knowledge to benefit the NW? The first suspect is Benjen. Benjen is a Stark... that could explain ability. He met Ghost in Winterfell. And Benjen could have known what happened to his men and the value of the dragonglass and imparted all of that via Ghost, if.... he is Coldhands. Coldhands controls a giant elk and a flock of crows/ravens (I forget). Even if Benjen is not Coldhands, Coldhands could still be warging Ghost.

Another culprit is someone with whom Coldhands is friendly... the three eyed crow... Brynden Rivers, aka Boodraven. Brynden was rumored to be a sorcerer. He was a Targ ******* (do Targs have warging ability?) and once Hand of the King before being exiled to NW. He became LC, but disappeared north of the Wall. He is now literally dug into the world wide root and watches Westeros through the heart trees. If he can speak to Bran and Jojen through dreams and call to others through heart trees, it is not too much of a stretch to say he could slip into Ghost's skin. He is allied with the Children of the Forest, so he knows all about the dragonglass. I think it likely that he directed Coldhands to leave the weapons for Ghost.

I still need to finish ACOK, ASOS, and ADWD. I'm eager to read about Jon's experiences when Ghost is absent in ASOS and Jon's last chapter of ADWD.

Very interesting theory Boaz. I think of the two "culprits" you listed, the 3eyed raven is far more likely, but I would like to think Benjen is still out there somewhere.

If Ghost is at least twice controlled by someone to assist the NW, who could it be?

You make a connection to the weirwood trees, which immediately puts me in mind of Bran - who can now experience events through time. All we need is someone in a position like Bran's to be able to act on the world, rather than simply observe it...

Brian, well that could explain how the First Men (Mormonts, Starks, Wildlings, etc) all believe in the power of the heart trees. It has been done before...

we are now entering the realm of Time Paradoxes. If, as Brian says, Bran is able to act rather than just observe, he can affect the past, so maybe the old gods were really just Bran and Blood Raven all along! Just like in the Terminator!

My own guilty pleasure crackpot theory that I've been cultivating more every time I read some of a soiaf is that Varys is actually Egg who faked his death at Summerhall with the objective of bringing the Targeryen and The Blackfyre lines together again. In the meantime, before he came back to the seven kingdoms as Varys, he trained as a faceless man to keep his youth at the age he was at summerhall and became a master at diguise. This was all prompted by a few things:

1) He learned how much the division between the two lines cost the seven kingdoms as a kid. And more importantly, he learned that the seven kingdoms had lost good knights and lords who were following Deamon and his seccessors for Essos, and he wanted the equilibrium of power back.
2) In his later years, he learned to his sorrow that being honorable as he was doesn't help him get things done, as opposed to Bloodraven, who he never liked.
3) He contemplated bringing back dragons to get the other lords to submit, but he's the only Targeryen who bothered to do actual research before attempting that, and he got himself some books from Ashaii. If he got books from the origin of the Azor Ahai prophecy, then he likely knew about it (Rhaegar had learned about it in the Red Keep's library), which means he likely knew dragons can't be revived until their promised time, so the entire summerhall incident might have been a distraction for him to get out of the throne and take it upon himself to fix the realm some other way.

This prompted him to try and change into a bloodraven-like character and raise a character like himself in his young age (Young Griff) and another one like Aegon the conqueror (Daenerys), and try and make the best council for kickstarting a new era. Tyrion as hand, Illyrio as master of coin etc...
