The Winds of Winter publishing date guesses?

That is definitely encouraging. It tells me the story is now essentially writing itself. That always happens once an author hits their stride.

No. I think I missed several. I want to read them but I'm making myself not read them after the Arianne chapter that came out. I feel like it might take away from the experience of the final product. Why do you ask?

I actually had a dream that I was reading The Winds of Winter, so surreal but a wonderful feeling. It was a huge hardback edition, with a grey cover.

I need help.

I have hopes for 2015. His publisher expects a manuscript very soon, and claims the editing process, at least on the publishing end, will be relatively quick. Maybe I'm just being overly hopeful, but I am excited anyway.

Soni saw this todayhttp://m.eonline.com/news/547905/more-game-of-thrones-on-the-way-george-r-r-martin-s-editor-hints-at-another-book

Looks like 7 may not be the final total? Nothing confirmed but... waaaat?!

Thanks for the link, Keebs. Nice to see the editor admit in writing what I've always suspected: Mo' books = mo' money. Instead of doing her job and reining in some of GRRM's excessive wandering, she's actively encouraging more books. It's no wonder we've all become ASOIAF fashion and food experts. This is totally the Robert Jordan blueprint. Can't wait until the next book when GRRM spends three whole chapters on Daenerys taking a bath. Well, nevermind, I still contend that we never see the next book let alone the last one(s). Go go HBO!

Eh I suspect its more the case that the 7th book just has so many ends to tie up that its starting to push 1K pages - and anyone who's read a Peter Hamilton book knows that once you get to the middle of those monsters in paperback the book starts to get a bit risky at holding together! So sure split the book into two like they did with Storm of Swords.

It's just the exact same thing he's been saying for years, that seven books is the plan and it's what he and his publishers want to do, but he won't set it in stone in case the last book gets too huge and might need to be split in two.

This is what we've been talking about for a few posts already ;). However, I love this comment from your link:

I hope one of the books is just a compendium of meals that characters ate in the other books that he didn't have the time to fully describe back then.

Just a whole bunch of flash backs to delicious meals.

The only problem I had with book 5 was that it made me hungry reading about all that food. But I came late to the party and only started reading after the show started so I didn't have to wait 6 years for book 5. I just wish Martin would through out some hints on his blog that gave an indication of how far along he is. just things like "Finnished the rough draft of 2 chapters today" or "About 2/3rds of the way done" would be nice. Just something that shows he is thinking about it. I know he gets uncomfortable giving predictions of when it will hit shelves, but if he knows where the story will be in the end of the book, he should know approximately how close he is to getting there.

I personally doubt we will ever see the end in print (written by GRRM at least).

There is clearly a massive amount of plot still to be covered for all of the main characters, let alone the minor ones introduced in AFFC/ADWD. Three large books might do it.

Publication dates?

WOW-2016
ADOS-2020
Later books? (how old will GRRM be by then)

Bearing in mind as well that probably the first third of WOW is going to be stuff that should have been in ADWD.

Personally I would sooner have a shortened WOW published ASAP so we can read as much as possible before it appears on the show. With the expectation that anything further will be released after the show has finished.

Bringing in a lot about Dorne and the Iron Islanders in the later books really made things more convoluted. All it needs is a few more character massacres in book 6 and the last might look a bit simpler :D
The editor gives the impression she doesn't have much idea how long it will be. But clearly it keeps getting longer. I'm still hoping for pre-christmas 2015..

I think you meant to say 2016.

I know summer just started but christmas is always just around the corner and I think we would have heard by now if it would be ready in time.

Remember the editing process will probably last a couple of months.
