Alchemist you bugger - thats called eating my words.
I'll have that slice, no bigger please, bigger - no much bigger - just give me the whole pie, thats right - THE HUMBLE PIE.

There has been lots of that on here, but Chrons has helped me a lot.
My high ambitions are still there - I also now value the respect I would get from my fellow writing peers by winning a monthly challenge.

So, please vote for me - I'm really very nice.....

I didn't think it would get me very far Springs, too many clever people on here for that. Still, worth a try......

I have investigated this outside thing, not for long, but I had a look. It was very bright, some light thing way above me - animals and other people. All too scary, back in darkened room again (well, work!).

I always thought it was Ronald McDonald. :)

:p:p That's me! Those red Timberland boots ended up in the bin after that day, too much Thames gunk to clean off, even with boiling water! The site in the pic is an underwater (usually, tidally) arch next to the Olympic site 2 years ago..There were workmen screaming at me "get aaht the !@$&in water you idiot.'

It's a hard, sad, dangerous life being a killer clown :D.

And thanks for your kind words on my submission Grizz!

Also rage @ the forum formatting. Is there a way to get things to indent (like at the start of a new paragraph) ?

Hi James, are you copy/pasting from a word processor like MS Word? When I copy/paste, I find I have to reformat it; select all text, and then apply font, justification, size etc.

Unless I'm posting a short reply to a forum message, I always Go Advanced and then preview anything to save editing, and get to see how the post will look.

Hope this helps some.:)

Damn. Just a quick glance at some of the other entries and already seen 2 or 3 I want to vote for!

Edit: Hmm. I didn't see the option in Go Advanced. Oh well

Edit2: Just checked the option, but it indents the whole paragraph, not just the first line of the paragraph. Basically I just want to add a tab

Just 2 or 3 you want to vote for? I have no idea how I am going to choose! Help!

There appears to be no way to get paragraph indenting; in critiques we're forever having to tell people to put in the blank lines between paragraphs, to avoid the "terrifying wall of text" syndrome.

But if you click "post reply" instead of launching yourself straight into the "quick reply" box, you have all the advanced possibilities directly on hand…

Now, we have 52 entries, and reliables Boneman, Culhwch, Parson, StormFeather, The Judge and Ursa major, plus recent reliables Highlander and The Spurring Platty, have not yet submitted; there is a good chance of ending the second year beating last month's 59 all time record! There are still a couple of days to go, and obviously plenty more potential who could, possibly post something of the 270 who've done so this far, or even some who've never tried.

I actually find it interesting the number of entries that use dialogue to tell the story. It is an area I am weakest I believe, with so few words, adding dialogue is difficult for me, so I often stick to narration.

TDZ and Phyrebat's entries are solid examples. Good pieces, and the dialogue paints the picture as well as anything I could describe.

Not that I'm looking to give up my ways, just an observation of the differences in how these entries can unfold.

I'm the same way, I always feel that my dialogue is too sparse or uninteresting. But all of that goes out the window when I right a particular character in my WIP. He's a scene chewer, the villain, a real Hugo Weaving type. When it comes to him I can't seem to make myself stop writing dialogue, he's just so magnetic.
