So, I've just read through the stories and they're all great. I don't know how you all find the time. It's really interesting to see how similar themes kept coming through, even though for me they weren't particularly obvious elements of the Pic prompt. I suppose that just shows how creative you all are...anyway, I started to skim back through this thread and then realised I shouldn't because it's obviously a close vote (haven't looked yet) and I don't want to be influenced. Going to sleep before I place votes, fairly sure on two of them...I think.

And obviously all bribes to the usual address please...;)

From a shortlist of...crystal haven, Mouse, allmywires, Vertigo, alchemist, TheDustyZebra and Culhwch.

Votes to:
allmywires - For the excellent and chilling description. Took me there, kept me there.
alchemist - For taking an original slant and keeping me guessing until the end. A clever piece of writing.
Culhwch - For a well constructed story, kept simple, but gives more than is on the page.

Oh lawd, four whole votes! Thank you kindly Brev, and I can't remember if I thanked the other 3 - if not, sending virtual hugs your way.

No one is immune from a slap

That wasn't running it down! At slightly under 250 words it's slim and sylphlike ( a fate I do not risk) but anything I added (to try and improve comprehension, not my strongest suit) felt like padding. So I took it out again, and entered lean.

I voted for
stilllearning
alchemist
thedustyzebra

I also enjoyed the stories by
southron sword
glitch
ratsy
vertigo

I ended up reading the stories in a bit of an odd order (basically I started for some reason half way through page 3 and read backward to half way through page 2, then left it a couple of weeks and re-read the lot). Maybe that's why some of the stories have stuck in my head more than others

I voted.

There were many I liked and if I had only one vote to cast it would have been easy; Spurring Platty would have it. However, these ones stick out;

Sauthron Sword
Chrispenycate – (Anything that manages to include Schrodinger's cat so well and its influence so straightforwardly gets a thumbs up from me. I wonder if the boys from Primer felt this way?)
Mosaix
David Evil Overlord – I liked the 'oooh nearly' escape.
Scott R Foreshaw
RJ Dando - this reminded me of a favourite trilogy of Farscape episodes.
StilLearning - Flesh Lego! Horrid. Fabulously so.
Glen
Alchemist
Boneman
Harebrain – for wonderful dialogue.
TDZ

My votes however;
Allmywires – Very nasty, very cenobite :D
The Judge - A living ship, the mention of corvettes, this just struck me as a really classy tale. I don't know why that should be so, but it carried quite a lot of gravity.
Spurring Platy. This just so completely appealed to my experiences with WiFi, 3G, anything that Microsoft has put out and that I have to suffer under (as a Mac-phile, I marvel when I log into my Dad's ancient laptop and it is still requiring download patches 4 years since he got it!), and waiting for PSN downloads....

Wow, another vote! Thanks, James Coote!

And thanks to Vertigo, Moonbat and Phyrebrat (say that three times really fast) for the extra mentions!

I was going to vote today, but I spent the day out of town with my son, and then hung out with my mom when I got back.
I'll try and get the rest of the stories read tomorrow after work or possibly on my lunch... life kinda threw stuff at me i wasnt expecting and my previous procrastination is nibbling at my conscience now.
somewhere on my desk is a shortlist from the entries I've read, but my reading has been so haphazard lately...

sorry
