Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #5

Dun dun duuuun! I entered! Wasn't going to, but I had a couple of spare minutes this afternoon and couldn't get anything done with the WiP so had a go at this instead.

Ah come on, I think you can tell by the quality that it only took a few minutes!

I fancied joining in for a change. This is my second 300 worder.

Having reread my entry, and finding a distinct lack of other ideas coming to me this month (they are all hovering just out of reach, darn them), I'm thinking I might not enter this one.

Or I could post and be damned. Decisions...

I danced around the 300 word count. Every time I edited, and re-read, I would either be +5 or -5. The worst part though is the moment before you submit the story, like when I leave for vacation and felt I left something important, the same applies to these stories.

Yes, that's why I said it was scary. You're never quite sure it's ready to post, and you hesitate on that submit reply button.

Was all ready to post, read over some of the entries, and then realized with a start that mine was neither Fantasy nor Science Fiction, but rather realistic fiction. Shall have to tweek at least some Speculative Fiction elements into it.

Actually got mine done. Just need to post it but will sleep on it, before I re-count the words and post. (It always makes me nervous when I have exactly 300 words)

I know what you mean -- I've been religious about hitting exactly 75 words for every story, as a matter of principle, or pride, or OCD, or something, but I've never let myself hit 300 precisely. I figure in 300 words, there is a lot more room for different interpretations and I want to be safe.

Okay, I'm in. I wasn't sure about the three hundred, at all. I find writing 75 words to be quite easy - I know to keep it short - anything over a hundred, and I lose all perspective ... it became a thousand in next to no time.

I'm not 100% happy with the final draft; a lot of the detail was lost in the editing, but it's my first shot at the 300, so I don't suppose I should be too disheartened with my attempt.

I've read all the others, so far, and there's some really high quality in there. Well done, guys and gals. :)

First attempt at the 300 challenge, and quite pleased with it. The idea was mulling around for days, but couldn't quite find the right way to write it. There's some very strong competition there (I read them after posting!), and looking forward to seeing any new entries :)

First try as well, loved the photo, came up with a solid concept. Couldn't describe what it was in under 300 words! I think the basic idea comes through. Still had the 75 word challenge in my brain I think.

I seldom have much time to read before I go to bed, but a collection of great 300 and 75 word shorts does me vey nicely!
