We're all adults, so long as it doesn't move into offensive/bad language without ***, I think it's usually okay. I did check an early one of mine with the mods, and it was suggested it was probably a little too close to the bone, so I changed it, so you could do that if you're worried.

Oops TJ there first. How could I forget Pyan?

Oh yeah, it's not explicit and it doesn't have language in it. the theme is dark though, but if dark is fine, there shouldn't be a problem.

Looking at it again, I think I'll be fine. Will see what modifications come of it before I'm done though, anyway.

I'm curious (and it's relevant for me this month ) about the use of swearing. In particular where to draw the line. I get the feeling that we tend to find obscene a no no and (mildly) blasphemous is ok**. By this I mean that

blasphemies like "J***s!", "C****t", "H**l!", "D**n!" - might be considered ok (being ultra cautious with the *s in this post!)

obscenities like "S**t!", "p**s" - and other worse ones not ok.

Would that be about right?

** as an aside it is interesting how this sort of thing has changed over the years. I'm sure a few hundred years ago obscenities would have been considered trivial and blasphemies considered far more serious and unacceptable, whereas nowadays it seems to have swung the other way.

That about sums it up, Vertigo, though I'm sorry to say the four-letter words are becoming increasingly acceptable in modern-day society, which to me indicates paucity of thought and imagination more than the robust vitality their supporters claim.

As for the use in the Challenges, we'd always ask everyone to think carefully about them and see whether they can be dispensed with or if a less offensive version is appropriate. In mine the f-word was needed to point up a difference between two scenes, but I thought hard before using it. We certainly wouldn't want them to be used for shock value alone, nor would we want several in one piece.

DEO, I believe, according to tradition, you must also swear not to harm any kittens. But since it's almost Easter, the bunnies should get a free pass as well.

Ugh I have another miserable story for this. I want something cheerful: my 75 words was awful as well. Please pass me over a nice fluffy plot bunny.

Hmmm. A evil plotline suggests itself. Bwahahahahahahahaha!!

Disclaimer: No Fluffy Bunnies will be harmed in the writing of my story for this Challenge.
It's all very well promising not to hurt fluffy bunnies (or even Fluffy Bunnies) in the writing of your story, but what about in the the story itself...?

If the story works as planned, no Fluffy Bunnies or Cute Kittens or Miscellaneous Mammals will be harmed, either in the writing of the story, or in the story itself.

A {THIS SECTION DELETED IN CASE DETAIL OF EVIL PLOT INFLUENCES VOTING} might happen, but that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.*

No Fish will be Kettled, either in the writing of the story, or in the story itself.

Written and now actively ignored my attempt. If I even take a peep I know that'll be the jumping point to add a few changes. Just can't take the risk.
The photo inspiration though was perfect, good choice.

I absolutely love the photo, now it's just coming up with something to to fit it properly. I missed the last 300 word challenge I don't intend to miss this one, times a ticking.

I've written my story. I've never entered the 300 word challenge, but will have a go this time.
