I don't like books with too much, but it can be used very effectively. We can't say anything really naughty on here anyway, can we? Doesn't the software stop us?

Depends what you mean by naughty ;)

Swearing isn't permitted, that's been stated many times before. I'd never use any 'real' swearwords in my writing anyway, unless for emphasis, which has already been mentioned, but that would be in my own writing, not the challenges.

Abernovo -- that's a lovely, lovely story. The ending made me sigh* (happily -- it made me sigh in a good way)

* actually, it made me cry but I don't want to admit that because it makes me sound like a wuss.

Thank you, Hex. I don't normally make ladies cry. ;)

Bah.. kick in the head. First time I forgot to put the title in after my word count and posted it. Now it's too late :(

For those keeping track, I bet it would have been called "I Stand Alone". But maybe you can think up your own title after you're done reading it.

Just for the record, we don't add or amend titles, no more than we'd add a missing word or amend a spelling in the story itself. The moral is -- always check and double check (and triple check and...)

Good to see so many stories, and still 10 days to go. And I think I'm going to need all 10 days as I haven't got a whiff of a story yet...

Me too! I haven't even thought about it yet. It's a lovely picture, so I'm sure something will come along. I need to start sweating the 75 first, though.

I literally had a dream, wrote it down longhand next day, copied it to computer, checked the word-count, and it fit :)

After looking at the picture enough times inspiration struck. Hopefully I was able to do it justice.

Oh well. I have always given credit to those entries that remained titleless. It sucks, but I won't dwell on it. I'm always shocked at how few the 300 word entries are compared to those entered in the 75 worder.

By this far into the 75, we had 4 or 5 pages. Still, our 300 sits around 3 or 4 by its end.

Takes a lot more time and thought to come up with a 300 word story over a 75 word one, maybe?

Although for some it would be the other way around, as they start with big stories and work hard to fit them down into 75 words.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

My 300 word is probably the shortest its been, at maybe 270, but I find my 75 worders generally hit 120 or more and I have to cut entire lines of text to make it fit.

Besides, I find I get more creative with 300 words and I love to be able to throw that kind of stuff down. Concepts I can explore without having to write an entire novel.

We don't seem to be doing this so much, at the mo, and I think part of it is the sheer number of entries in the 75 makes it hard. Alc, I really liked that, I had to read it twice to be sure of it. Also, Glen's made me laugh, it caught the bored tourist guide so well, and of course, the mint to be made.... And Hex, where was that going in another fifty words... I was worried.

All brilliant entries, and all so different, it's amazing. It's going to be another toughie...

Oh, those last two are going to be a hard act to follow! I have a daunting task ahead of me this weekend.

Wow yes. Glitch and alchemist, those are fantastic stories.

Warming (Glitch) and then chilling (alchemist). Just as well we have three votes.

I haven't got a whiff of a story yet...

Neither have I.

To the question of why we have more 75 word stories than 300: possibly the idea of not only writing 300 words but polishing them seems like more work to a lot of people.

Then, too, the 75 worder attracts a lot of people to the site who aren't even writers (but who often find out in the process that they are, after all), because what the heck it sounds like fun. The 300 words is probably more daunting. At that length, it seems a little more serious and a little less like a game.
