This was a difficult task.

On the long list:
reiver33
Abernovo
Hex
TacticalLoco
Scott R Forshaw
Bob S Sr.
Grizzgreen711
Aun Doorback
HareBrain
Ursa Major
The Dusty Zebra
Boneman
digs

Through to the short list:
David Evil Overlord - the world will never be rid of lawyers. That is a truth.
Warren_Paul - the jaw line just had me laughing on each reread.
Anthus - this is exactly the kind of creator we deserve.

And I voted for:
hopewrites - I knew it would end up like this, I knew it.
Stormfeather - simple and powerful.
mosaix - so many things in a one nutshell.

Thank you for the listing, Procrastinator.

Adding to the list of thank yous, I've just discovered that the poll reveals the secret identities of the voters (I'm slow, I've been away) and I owe my gratitude to booksforlunch and Luiglin for votes! I think this is the first time I've gotten more than one vote! Hooray! (the three votes each thing is mere coincidence I'm sure)

While we're thanking each other....

Thanks, Cul, for such an obviously inspiring subject and genre combination. :)

Is your "relevance" about equivalent to my "sticking to subject"?

And, as to be expected, I have a negative only column for grammar…
As a guess, your "plot" is more or less my "is it a story (beginning, middle, end)?"

None of which changes the fact that three votes unbalances the system, and I haven't yet voted.

Pretty much exactly right. Relevance covers theme and genre and plot is basically does it have one, so yes: beginning, middle and end. Though I'm pretty easy going on that as it is rather difficult to achieve in just 75 words. Bit more strict about it in the 300 word though. However my grammar's not good enough for me to try and score that one; my writing category is similar but more qualitative: flow, rythm, clarity etc.

I sort of guessed you'd have something similar! :)

I would hope that multiple "points" are deducted for each comma splice....

It's been a very busy few days, and I've finally had the chance to sit down and get back to actually reading, not skimming, things.

Going through the stories, I'm amazed that my initial shortlist is only 22, given the amount of fantastic stories there are. I'm going to curl up tonight with a glass of something tasty and whittle them down.

In the meantime, and after going back some way in this thread - I thank Abernovo for the mention, and Choccoweeble, TDZ and Scott R Forshaw for the shortlistings. I'm also doing a dance of absolute joy to have discovered that Mouse, Perp Man, r j Dando, Stormcrow, Taly and TP have voted for me!!! Woot woot! :D:D

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Thanks Parson and nixie for the short-listing, and Glitch for the vote! Wow. :D

(SF, you're welcome!)

It has been really hard to choose, but this is my list:

Perpetual Man – The True Promise of A Post Apocalyptic World
StilLearning – Hope
Scott R. Forshaw – The Last Ride
Anthus – Second Chance
The Procrastinator – Blessed
Nixie – Freak
TheDustyZebra – The Feeling’s Mutual
Culhwch – Gone Fishing

Favourites, and Votes:

Digs – Broken Things
Mouse – Everybody’s Dead, Dave
StormFeather – A New Hope
Parson – Memories and Melodies
Hex – The Promises
HareBrain – Horsemen
Reiver33 – Hitchhiking To Hell

Another listing? Yay! Thanks, crystal.

I'd forgotten how much I like these challenges. :D

Thank you to those who short-listed (hotel internet is flaky at best, so can't go back and pick out names, but massive thank yous!), and especially to Glitch and Aun for the votes! *happy dance*

SF - it was a pleasure, the quality of everything was so good that when making a choice it was going to come down to the little things, and a story that dealt with child birth was certainly going to do it for me this month, of all months!
