I would hope that multiple "points" are deducted for each comma splice....

I didn't even know what a comma splice was until I started hanging out with the clever folks here at Chrons.

OK I'll get back to reading and scoring now...

OK, here we go!

First I want say Welcome to all the new posters. I would call you by name but I'm afraid I'd miss someone.
Anyway, a fine group of writers joining in. Cool!

Thank you to David Evil Overlord, Teresa Edgerton, Phyrebrat, The Procrastinator for your very kind mentions.
And mucho thanks to Azzagorn for the vote. :)

Finally, here's my take on the months incredible stories
My Short List or Honorable Mentions are...
Perpetual Man
Abernovo
Scott R Forshaw
Anthus
Teresa Edgerton
Aun Doorback
nixie
Slindeman

And my three votes for best of the best went to
The Spurring Platty
David Evil Overload
southron sword

Chrystal Haven Thanks for the "favorites" listing. It is a real honor to be there among so many quality entries.

Thanks for the mention, Tactical.

And thank you very much for the vote, alchemist. Somehow, I didn't see it before. Made my day now I have. :)

Hex – The Promises
HareBrain – Horsemen
Reiver33 – Hitchhiking To Hell

I see you have a thing for capital "H", Crystal. I'll bear that in mind in future titles.;)

Thanks very much for the vote, and same to Highlander, Glitch, Mosaix and Nixie.

A vote!? YAY!! Thank you thank you, didn't expect that at all writing from my biggest weak point. Hard to post from my phone, but I had to jump on between bites of sandwich and say thanks and drop in m short list now that I've voted.
David evil overlord
Southron sword
still learning
Abernovo
Glitch
Storm feather
Hex
Mosaix
Aun doorback
Glen
rmj corbet
Phyrebrat
The spurring platty
Culhwch

Thanks to everyone for letting me do comments, really enjoyed so many emotional stories and fantastic takes on a seemingly incongruous theme and genre that really was perfect :)
Cul you made it to my finals but had to go with sl for the emotional impact. Hex and ab every time I read your stories I find something more to love about them so glad w had three votes this round because I don't know how I would have chosen bet, ween weeping ash and a laughing bundle named Christopher.,

Thank you for the votes both of you! I'm working on my short-shortlist, time is tight at the moment between work and familly but I have a good idea of two of my votes.

daughter has been vomiting - have tried but can't concentrate on whittling down my shortlist tonight, will try again another tomorrow.

Thank you Hope for the shortlist!

Am going to catch some sleep - I feel it may be a long night . . .

aww Hope, thank you. A vote and you also make me feel all special and clever :)

Stormfeather -- sympathies to you both. I hope she feels better soon (very soon) and you get some sleep tonight. I hate vomiting bugs (HATEHATEHATE them)

I hate vomiting bugs (HATEHATEHATE them)

Me too, the worst thing in the world. i quiver at the first words of "Mummm I don't feel well." I particularly hate it when they give it to mum. (Yes, yes, I am that awful. I hold them at arms length and hand them to their dad, and everything....)
Anyway, a secret weapon; Motillium, available over the counter, anti nausea, doesn't make you feel drowsy, you'll still feel like death, but won't be sick, can drink water and will be on your feet easily 8 hours earlier.... good travel sickness pill, too. And no, I don't have shares.

Woo-hoo! A shortlisting from Hopewrites (thank you), and two more votes -- thank you, TacticalLoco and Mosaix. :)

Let me see...first 75 worder, no votes; second 75 worder, one vote; third 75 worder, six votes...if I can keep up this level of mathematical progression, by 2014 I'll have ALL the votes. Bwahahahahahaha!!

P.S. I hate vomiting bugs, too. That's why I don't eat bugs.

So many stories....
The spread sheet is helping, i'll need to fix the scoring later. I have a feeling I am over scoring the ones I like less and under scoring the stories I like more. My guess is how points are being allocated.

Thanks for the mentions Phyrebrat and Perp and thanks a million for the vote, Vertigo.

My shortlist:

Hex - I loved the last line.
Scott R Forshaw - It appealed to my sick sense of humour
Stormcrow - I can think of worse texts for a new world
Anthus - I like irony!
The Procrastinator - though my money is on the rats.......
Aun Doorback - Somehow reminded me of John Antrobus and Spike Milligan's stage play 'The Bed Sitting Room'
Paranoid Marvin - He's doing Kipling again. Or Country Joe and the Fish. Or Dylan. Brilliant, anyway.
Harebrain - Tons of implication in such a short length!
Culhwch - ditto

And my votes: - Scott R Forshaw, Culhwch and Paranoid Marvin

Here is my short list with the first three receiving votes.

How the war between the Centaurs and Monkey-Men Began -- hopewrites
A New Hope -- StormFeather
APRIL FOOL! -- springs1971
Unsuspecting Victor -- Grizzgreen711
Pure White: A Sister’s Promise -- Phoenixthewriter
Hostile Takeover -- TacticalLoco
Dying Wish -- Perpetual motion
EASTER SUNDAY -- Bob S. Sr

The biggest factor seemed to be creativity. I did notice that my overall score did start decreasing slightly with those that used the word 'promise,' it was used more often than I can remember in any other challenge. I am probably right about amount but not percentage. going through the last couple of pages to double check, the loss of a point or two didn't cause anyone to break into my short list. I need to work on how I score in future challenges.
