Discussion -- 75 Word Challenge -- June

the implied rule seems to work well enough. I haven't noticed anyone needing more than one scolding about it. amending the rules sounds like such a hassle.

As kaal says, we discuss the stories, but we do not explain (especially in detail), our own stories, until after the voting.

For others to make guesses or say what they see in a given story is one thing -- these are only guesses, and it's fun to see what different people make of the same story. Once the writer explains, then the explanation becomes part of the entry.

If we put it into the rules, we'll have to start removing stories when the writers don't follow the rule.

I must admit it's hard to resist talking about your story. One of my past entries obviously needed an explanation as many did not get it. However, that was down to my poor writing skills in not successfully reducing it into 75 words. To have offered an explanation would have meant expanding on it's premise and thereby defeating the object of the 75 limit.
The upside was the reviews were way more funny than my entry :)

trust me as I told Mr. bear, I whole heartedly agree and understand the unspoken, but implied rule now!

and having discussions where we all tip toe around what we REALLY want to say, just reminds me of being home for the holidays!

Never work with Meatloaf?

Perhaps, I'm too obvious.
The #1 rule of fight club is: 'You NEVER discuss fight club.'
Cool movie anyway.

As for stories, yes the whole point is to communicate a genuine plot line, with character development in 75 words or less. This always one things judge stories on, my own included. "Does it tell a (the) story?"

Others are free to speculate, but the author should not explain until after voting is closed.

And no worries philo, everyone walks that fine line.

Thanks Perp! As always, your words are very uplifting (although I read the first two sentences and began to feel worried!)

Great stories, and so varied as always. Fab to see newbies join and really through brilliant hats into the ring, as it were.

Wonder what the final total will be this month?

We've reached 60 entries, and there's still almost half an hour to go.

But late entrants will have to be quick. I spent more than five minutes posting because some of the spaces were swallowed by the system when I pasted my entry in, and I had to add them. And the machine added a line break for every paragraph mark; I had to remove the extra lines from the original before pasting. (Strange, because my usual problem is forgetting to put those extra lines in the original, making the pasted version difficult to read.)

Ursa, I've always had the extra line problem when pasting, and I asked a few months ago in the "feedback" forum about the new problem with the spaces getting lost. A lot of people have been having that problem, recent to a few months back, but there's apparently no consensus as to what it might be.

Glad you had time to fix it all, anyway!

It could, as Cul suggested, be my browser. In replacing my ailing laptop, I've changed from IE8 to IE9.

EDIT (at 23:55 BST): Four minutes and counting....

I use Opera, usually (well, except at work and on my mobile devices...), and have never had a problem. It does strip all formatting when I paste, although that doesn't worry me too much, as it means I have to give it that last check to ensure everything is as it should be.
