You must be psychic -- that was the title my partner told me to use!! Thanks for the vote!

Thanks for the mentions/shortlistings springs, Hex, PM and crystal haven.

Thanks so much for the vote Crystal Haven! I cant wait to reread all the entries and cast my vote. Once again a lot of good ones to choose from.

OK, so re-read and the shortlist was: Boneman, Warren Paul, Appello, Azzagorn & (my vote) Grimbear. :)
Good reads.

My Shortlist

The quality of entries has always been strong. However, this month my shortlist would be stupidly long with nearly as many entries as there were in the contest. So, I have a short shortlist.

And this is it:

Springs - Mummy’s Boys. The story itself is great, and tidy, but this one has such a professional pace to it. The choice and pacing of the last 2 lines from the dialogue to it’s effect are songlike.

Boneman – The Observers. Quite a few funny stories in this month’s challenge and this was one of my favourites. Especially using the contraction of ‘jeez’ from ‘Jesus’. It reminded me of something Eddie Izzard might do in his set.

RcGrant – Eschatology. One of those occasions where I get the much-hoped-for visceral response where my belly feels like it contains a plummeting lift. Nasty and wonderful. I love the calmness of Maya and the allusion to the Earth Goddess in naming her so. This is in contrast with the (in my mind, at least) Judeo-Christian priest, whose actions can be seen as a metaphor to what the Church did to indigenous pagan beliefs. Well….I took it there. I love how we can squeeze so much out of someone else's work.

Kiffnyjean – The Caper. This just made me laugh out loud which is something I rarely do when I'm by myself. Also for some reason the gamboling Unicorn made me think of Alchemist’s ‘look at my pigtails twirl’ joke last month and that really made me start up again. Animals and humour have been a big feature of this month’s contest and whilst I'm against people anthropomorphising their pets, doing it in a fictional environment, as a story, and making them little b***ers really appealed to me.

And so to measure them for a winner... Well, to be honest, it was over after I had read The Caper. So that was where my vote went.

Another hard month of really talented writing...

Luiglin - the funny one's are always the best

Hex - excellant, too real.

Still Learning - nice, didn't see that comming

Thank you very much for your comments, they are much appreciated. You aren't far off-base with your interpretation of the story either. ;)

Perp, Crystal and Phyrebat, thanks for the shortlistings.

Phyrebat, I'm skipping at this, thankyou! (quite frankly, I'm putting Alc's ponytails to shame, I have lovely purple ribbons and everything. :D)

The following Chronners are found guilty of making my short(?)list by having too much writing talent:

Luiglin
Gary Compton
Crystal Haven
Hex
Teresa Edgerton
Hopewrites
Brev
Glen
HareBrain
Boneman
Aun Doorback
Starbeast
Moonbat
The Spurring Platty
Warren Paul
Perpetual Man
kiffinyjean
Stormfeather
kaal
TheDustyZebra
Azzagorn
Parson
Grimbear
The Judge
Culhwch

And the vote goes to Grimbear.

Oh dear, David, you've sentenced quite a few of us to the pen.

Thank you for the mentions, I plan on trying to vote tonight.

To be honest, I had a bit of a shout to DEO and Flashy, but my vote went to HW.

Ahh, ye go' me, serr. 'Tis no'ing but a wee plan t' have us in the PNW t' take overr!

That was terrible. But in all seriousness, I went for HW because the landscape she imbued upon us was just the poster picture of innocence and naivety, and her character was too smart to fall for it. ;)

And I don't know about that, Ursa; I feel pretty sheepish around here most of the time. :D

I found it hard this month, so there's something new. My shortlist:

Luighlin - inflatable ingrid proved hard to forget
Hopewrites
Highlander - I liked the Sims reference and the casual off button
Hilarious Joke
The Judge
But in the end I went for Apello's Beggars, because I thought it was clever and a complete story.

Thanks for the vote! It really makes my day/week/month to know someone out there has enjoyed my writing. :)

Also thanks to Hex, Crystal Haven, and Kaal for the mentions.

Thanks to Hex, StarBeast, and David Evil Overlord for the short listings. I had a dickens of a time trying to think about innocence. (Not surprising for a Calvinist I guess!)

A little disappointed not to have had a review by Perp but I will savor the next one.

Just wanted to thank this group for being so awesome. I've never really tried any sort of creative writing and am just glowing from the few reviews. Thanks to my future mother in law Teresa Edgerton for encouraging me. What a fun challenge. Its so interesting reading other peoples stuff too.
