Okay...After much deliberation. (which wasn't really a chore as I quite liked reading them all again.)

Honourable mentions to...

Luiglin - Felt the humour growing toward the last line. Well constructed.
Phyrebrat - Great scene, like a teaser for a movie, I wanted more.
Boneman - Jeez; that's both clever and funny.
Phoenixthewriter - A tale with heart, which was well done.
Starbeast - Great humour and pace.
The Spurring Platty - Nice twist, like a 'Tinga Tinga Tale'; with bite.
Perpetual Man - Cos who doesn't like a bit of Arthurian legend?
alchemist - For showing, not telling.
Appello - Ouch, that's nasty...I loved it.
Grimbear - Sucessfully inside that child's mind.

But my top three were...

Culhwch - Excellent. Again! The consistency alone deserves a round of applause. That first line hooks you, the second holds you there, and the third is the best of the lot.

paranoid marvin - Really admire the effort, the pace and metering are excellent. You've caught the mother's voice perfectly, capturing her distress and despair.

Hex - Wow. I thought this was brilliant. The vivid description and those little flashes of characterisation help to build a really effective piece.

...and my vote goes to Hex.

Howdy,
Thanks to Starbeast for short listing and to Perp for kind words.

Vote goes to The Judge, great job and she is learning to speak my language, dont'cha think?

Spent 2 days with doctors last week, had heart catherization yesterday, all in prep for bladder surgery Wed, if that don't get me a sympathy vote or two then I just don't know what else I can do!

Bob

Well, I voted. Sorry Bob Sr, I didn't see your comment before I did, but I don't give out sympathy votes. Here's hoping you come out alright.

My short list:
Luiglin's What's the world coming to ...
Teresa’s Chosen
Moonbat’s The Governortron
Azzagorn’s Innocent list
The Judge’s Knowledge Gained = Innocence Lost
and the vote goes to: Phoenixthewriter’s Preventive Measures

I haven't had the time too vote yet due to work commitments. I'll be reading and voting tonight all being well.

Thank you for the mentions and shortlistings this month people. It given me the feeling that I am actually improving my writing style. Until tonight then, my friends

Hey many thanks for the vote JohnnyJet much appreciated. And thanks to all who mentioned Heat of Battle, which has a bit of a story behind it which I will be happy to share to anyone who wants to know, after votes have closed.
For now I shall be reading all of the super entries with the view to vote tonight.

Thank you for the mention and the shortlistings, David Evil Overlord, Ratsy, and stormcrow. :)

Many thanks for all the kind mentions and listings, both long and short, everyone! I'm yet to get a chance to read any of the stories this month - it's been a hectic one. Will get to them before the cut-off though, I swear!

Votes are spread fairly evenly this month, it could be anyone yet.

Aun, I'll have a sneeky peek at what you have behind your 75 word entry.

Golly. Thanks for the votes and kind comments, ratsy and Bob S! Very unexpected and very welcome.

Vote goes to The Judge, great job and she is learning to speak my language, dont'cha think?
The Judge - Knowledge Gained = Innocence Lost - Clever and funny. I loved 'arboretum' and 'interdiction' (incidentally I liked the title - it gave nothing away)
I'm now seriously worried about how Bob S speaks at home... :p

And thanks for the lovely comment, Vertigo, and for the shortlisting. Thanks, also, lilmizflashythang.

Bob S and nixie, fingers crossed for both of you. (Er... Bob S and nixie... both of whom voted for me... is that just coincidence? Does voting for me immediately put people in hospital? Or is it the thought of hospital which makes people vote for a Judge? ;))
