And there I was thinking that the challenges were encouraging us to pony up a tale or two.

And quite a few of us have described the writing process for some of our entries as a pit of a pig.

So there we have pony tales and pig tales....

So there we have pony tales

Like Kiffiny and phileomiomai's unicorns.

(Although, going by the title, Kiffiny's may be more of a goat.)

***

Thanks to those who short-listed my story, and special thanks to AlcubierreWarp, Hammerhand, and Talysia for the votes.

Well, here goes. It took a good amount of time to get through but here is my Short List, complete with my Vote at the bottom.

Chrispenycate
RcGrant
hopewrites
Brev
HareBrain
StormFeather
Vertigo

I ultimately chose Chrispen's story "The Eye of the Beholder". After rereading it over and over, I found it quite clever, and felt it definitely deserved some attention.

Cheers Starbeast.

Cheers my friend.

Starbeast gets my vote as well this month. Reminded me of a certain Red Dwarf episode.

Thanks man. You're my second great surprise of the day.

Hmm, I need to view Red Dwarf again, great show, but don't recall that. But, hey, Red Dwarf is fun to watch at any time. However, "essence squeezing" is nothing new, I've see that in the movie DARK CRYSTAL, in a My Little Pony episode, that SMURF movie, in a Lost in Space episode, etc. etc. etc.

It was that image of Princess Fluffytail partying like a devil :D Stayed with me for ages!

Actually to be fair it was more than that. It was a complete story, had a moral yet was still hilarious, the baddie lost, the goodie won and, just maybe, becomes the next baddie. Perfect.

You know, I strangely can't get that image out of my head either, a sweet little female rabbit...ah, er...doing all sorts of things she wouldn't normally do. Eek.

Anyway, thanks for a fantastic review. You definately defined my tale, spot on (as you all say over seas).

Another hard month of really talented writing...

Winner
Brev - maybe the truest, sadess portrait of the month

:D Thank you.

I didn't draw up a proper shortlist this month but I voted for Brev. There were a couple of other similar entries, but that one tugged at all the right places.

Things to do before I die number 47: Tug an Alchemist in all the right places - Check. :D

And thanks for the mentions; r_j_dando, David Evil Overlord, Bowler1, ratsy, and Phoenixthewriter - all appreciated.

My internet connection has been sporadic at best since Sunday, so still compiling a short(er) list. I've narrowed it down to about a dozen, but can't decide between them, all are excellent in their own right. Off to ponder some more...

Thanks very much for the mentions, r j dando, TacticalLoco, StarBeast, DEO and Bowler1.

Perp, Tactical loco, Vertigo, Johnnyjet, for the mentions:
And Hex for the vote, that was a great surprise. I'll let the Abomination know, I'm she/it'll be chuffed!

I've got to be strict with myself this month, mentions of five only…else Ill loose another whole night trying to decide and leave it to the eleventh hour again:

Luiglin - What's the world coming to ...

David Evil Overlord - Distress Call

Phyrebat - Fred

Aun Doorback - Heat of battle

Culhwch - Already lost

But I'm terribly callow, so my vote goes to a sixth choice: Chrispenycate -Eye of the Beholder.

They were all good though!

Yipee!! A mention. Thank you, Johnnyjet.

I was trying for a double loss of innocence with the robot re-programming but don’t seem to have quite pulled it off. Roll on next month.

My taste buds took out 10% of the stories - they would have liked gnasking further into those, but according to rules they’re just allowed to sniff and saying thank you to Culhwch (hope I spelled it right), kiffinyjean (wish the chrons didn’t have such hard-spelling pseudos), Perpetual Man, and unforetunately Aun Doorback and Starbeast too.
What really went down as in oil, was the story of Teresa Edgerton, bravo TE – no victims – like that J

- and thanks to all who participated, pls. remember: All is relative :p:p

Well thankee anivid, I'm not sure whether I have been saved from a terrible mauling, mayhap it was safer to be sniffed...

And Stormcrow, a vote thank you so very much. :D

Don't be too down, it was good, and great idea. Had I been listing mentions to ten not five it would have been one.
