Parson - A classically inspired piece which comes across as almost mournful. Charon seems to be aware of his hunger but like many addictions is powerless before the hunger that consumes him. The fate of the little girl is handled perfectly, low key but there is a real sense of loss. An excellent entry.

Parson I cannot believe I missed an entry especially yours, I feel awful. Am so sorry - just a symptom of this absentminded/forgetfulness I'm having at the moment. It's already caused me a problem here this month and now here's another.

Not only did I not do the review (I shudder to admit it) I did not even read it!

I'm glad I had not voted 'cause it's made my short list.

ANYONE/EVERYONE else if I ever skip your review just yell at me.

Now, Perp, no need to think that these reviews be mandatory. They're fun to read, and I'm sure you enjoy writing them, but by no means mandatory.

I know Karn, but if I've reviewed everyone and missed one person it makes me feel bad.

Like your current avatar by the way

My current Avvie? It's from a game from the 90s that flew under the radar, called Realms of the Haunting. The character is called Gaul, the avatar of Satan during a near-armageddon.

I mostly chose this one because of the hat he wears and the fact he carries a deck of playing cards. ;)

Lots of mentions as the theme seemed very to get everyone going, so it was very hard to pick a winner for me.

Arkose
Hex - I wonder where you got the idea from??
Mith
Ratsy
Brev
Johnnyjet
Aun Doorback - I liked it, but no cigar this month.
Starbeast - As per Aun, close.
Vertigo
High Eight - my vote winner
Alchemist
Appello
Grimbear - That was good.
Culwich

Very good everyone.

Well I have done a reread and it was hard to even shortlist a few let alone vote for only one. They were all worthy of a mention. But here we go

Shortlist

springs
crystal haven
stevietee
highlander
brev
r j dando
phryebrat
boneman
mosaix
perpetual man
azzagorn
culhwch

And the Vote goes to

The Judge - I loved how you took it back to the first sin and showed how quickly innocence was lost according to the bible. And the whole time did it in a fun way. Great story!

My short list:

Arkose - True Innocence - Maybe a little close to the theme of my own story but damn, you got yours in first :) (I didn't peek honestly)
Aun Doorback - Heat of Battle - Chilling consequences. Very unsettling.
Boneman - The Observers - Jeez! Boneman. Excellent
Gary Compton - There is no innocence, only Karma… - I loved how I started off laughing and ended with a chill down my spine
Hilarious Joke - Apres moi le deluge - Oozing pathos. Loved it.
Luiglin - What's the world coming to… - Brilliant, my chuckles increased with each 'bump' and it was lol on the last line
Mosaix - Like a Lamb… - That last sentence, 'Burt smiled.' said it all
Paranoid marvin - The Beginning of the End - Beautifully poignant
Starbeast - Absence of Essence - Hilarious Starbeast Fluffytail indeed!
StilLearning - The Jury's Verdict - I loved how you turned this one its head with the closing line
Teresa Edgerton - Chosen - So much packed into 75 words. I wanted to shout YES at the end
The Judge - Knowledge Gained = Innocence Lost - Clever and funny. I loved 'arboretum' and 'interdiction' (incidentally I liked the title - it gave nothing away)
The Spurring Platty - A Taste of the Unnatural - I loved this. Another one turning the world upside down
Ursa Major - Homonymous Bosh's Guardian Earthy Delicts - A classic Ursa title, but also a great dark story

And the vote goes to Starbeast.

That was really difficult. Interesting to see how many went for comedy this month. And thank you to everyone for providing such enjoyable reading!

Absence of Essence - Starbeast - conjures up great pictures, funny, clever, picks up the theme, wrestles it and throws it down in triumph.

Thanks dude for the great review. BTW, you were on my long list for your intense drama. Great stuff Glen.

Runners up

Grimbear - Is it the soon to be lost innocence that we find so sad? Well written.

Starbeast - You are just evil, but in a good way.

Wow, I was runner-up with Grimbear, I'm speechless. You also made my short list with your excellent story.

Thank you for the mention Starbeast! Your specific comment has totally made my day :D

Your welcome Vertigo. Great tale.

The following Chronners are found guilty of making my short(?)list by having too much writing talent:

Starbeast (among others)

Thank you David Evil Overlord, your statement made my day.

And thanks for the short listing, Starbeast. :)

Your welcome dude. I'm glad you were able to squeeze your story in before time elapsed.

Thanks to Hex, StarBeast, and David Evil Overlord for the short listings. I had a dickens of a time trying to think about innocence.

Your welcome Parson. I had to really think about this month's theme too, cause I knew the competition was going to be very tough with so many great writers, including the new members.

Starbeast - As per Aun, close.

Close still works for me. Congradulations for being first to post a very good story.

Thanks for the short listings, Glen and Starbeast and thanks for the vote Appello. :)

Your welcome dude. Funny tale you created.

And the vote goes to Starbeast.

Huh? What?

I stepped away for a few minutes to eat a fruit salad, then I come back and...

...and...and...I....

Wow, thanks Vertigo. You blew me away! I'm stunned and thrilled at the same time.

It was that image of Princess Fluffytail partying like a devil :D Stayed with me for ages!

Actually to be fair it was more than that. It was a complete story, had a moral yet was still hilarious, the baddie lost, the goodie won and, just maybe, becomes the next baddie. Perfect.

Thanks for the review, as ever, Perp Man, and to Bowler for the mention.

I didn't draw up a proper shortlist this month but I voted for Brev. There were a couple of other similar entries, but that one tugged at all the right places.
