Hades' Justice
Hades’ mind wandered back to the old days. Lightning, towering waves and other forces raged back and forth as the gods battled with the titans. Why all the destruction? Was there a point to this battle? Probably not, but whatever Zeus demanded, the gods complied. Hades fingered the key to the titan prison with his usual uncertainty, wondering about the justice in the action. He hated his job anyway. Hades grinned, connecting key to lock.

Wild Western Hero Adventurers

"Who was that masked man?"

"That was no man, why that was Bigfoot Billy, the hero of the west."

"You mean to say, that sasquatch, shot the villianous centaur gunslinger, saved the Hobbit Mayor of Dry Gultch, captured all of the outlaw quetzalcoatls in this town, and, repaired the school just in time for student registration?"

"Yep."

"Boy-howdy! Say, whose that multiheaded feller riding alongside Billy?"

"That's his faith healing, faithful companion, Hydra Harry."

Furious Creation.

"Olympus sakes, Meg, we were not
Created to make justice reign;
Vengeance and punishment our lot."
Tisophone leant to explain.
"Created gods were there to teach
The pinnacles mankind could reach;
So, if now dictatorial
They must be disciplined in turn.
Who better then, to make them learn
Than we, the very flails they spurn?
Epitomies of anger, burn
Their name in our memorial."
Eternal tribulations bear
Their signature; 'tis only fair.

You've been Hacked: The legend of Koji ‘Samurai’ Mitsuhide.

Breaching the Pentagon Firewall gained him renown amongst the cyber-terrorist community. His Easternsun/TR virus, heralded a new generation of system crippling Trojans.
After its release, Koji vanished.

//Enter.
Heart racing, Samurai smiles. Punches air.
Flexes tired fingers.
Stands.
-Already it spawns; infecting networks, spreading misery-
Task complete. He bows. Unsheathes razor-edged sword.
Begins ritual Kata.
Tsukikomi, Kiriage, Kaeshi Waza; Slice, thrust- He stumbles, drops blade.
Grasps; instinctively catching...blood sprays.
Severed fingers fall.

Have all the fire you want…..

Two figures, hovering over mount Olympus, took in the fires.....

.....the charcoal......

.....the plutonium blue glow.

“So, the humans said:‘Return what stolen property?’”

“And Zeus said?”

“He said he wanted fire back, and he wanted all the complaining - about him raping and murdering - to stop.”

“And?”

Prometheus grinned evilly at Loki. Took another bite, from what looked like a very large roasted chicken wing.

“They said: ‘Fire.....? ’”

There were islands in the sky tonight. Moon on the sea. Is it already nearly dawn? There is only the one. I forget and forget. The sun rises from the sea. I have tears. I have lost all the good that was. I have lost everything. I am a fool.

The anger is still there. The grief is still there. The hope is still there. But acceptance has grown.

I must stop writing now.

The Game of the Gods

The die flew,
Through the clouds,
Tumbling.
The fate of a world hangs upon it.

Its brethren fly alongside.
In their gentle spin,
Illicit lovers elope, only to die at the shore.

One hit mountains, the thousand eyed shepherd sleeps under the snow.
Seven plunged into a loch, destroying its monster.
Four did damage to the stone it struck, revealing a golden hilt.
The die flew through a hole in the world.

Postponing its fate.

Urban Myth

Her brush with justice was blinding.

She sat under her banner - Auras by Ananda - at the psychic fayre, casting inviting smiles like worms for the silly fish that believed this crap. She'd never perceived an aura.

At dusk a punter arrived smelling of rotten eggs, cloaked in a sulphurous miasma which flashed red shards of hate; Open your eyes! Pour.

Later, she poured scalding olive oil into a dessert spoon and tipped back her head.

The Scales of Justice.

Amoun died screaming, “I’m innocent!” and descended to the underworld Duat.

Ma’at awaited his arrival along with Ammit , the consumer of lost souls.

They took his heart and weighed it against a Shu-feather. They balanced and Ma’at declared, “He IS innocent!”

Ma’at spoke to Amoun, “You have passed and may proceed to Aaru (paradise). However, there are fifteen more tests to complete before you are allowed in.”

Justice is elusive even in the afterlife.

Subtle Differences

‘Give me mercy!’, the monster cried.

‘Mercy? Mercy would be not getting what you deserve.’

‘Then grace, warrior, I beg for grace!’

‘Grace? Were I to give you grace, you would be getting something you do not deserve.’

‘You have slain my precious Grendel, what is left for me?’

‘This is not for you. The villagers you torment get what they deserve: to live in peace.’

A quick sword thrust ended the discussion.

Artemis

It was said, he was special and that he came from star. He walked as king, though he wanted no crown. He lived atop a mountain and played songs to the wind. Then a war came calling, and broke his peaceful heart. So he sang a song of war, as he went off to die.

Captive Audience

"He was like us, once - imprisoned here for seven days before his trial - starving, ragged, just like us. Hung by his thumbs for three days. When the wires cut through, he landed on his feet: proved innocent. Now he's the cruellest, meanest judge in the assizes. Pray you don't get him in your trial."

He grabbed the arm of the guard when they came for his companion.

"Which judge has he drawn?"

"Justice Fingers."

"****"

Set in Stone

The men of the company drilled a neat hole through the top of the stone stele. Attaching a length of rope, they brought the engraved monolith crashing down.

The quartermaster requisitioned some chisels from nearby quarries. Blindfolded, to prevent them accidentally reading the names, the men hacked away.

The prophecy stone, past and future kings and queens, was wiped clean.

On the back, the captain ordered a message written: "No man may own the future".

Ultimate Justice

As Brother Grasso stepped into the Hall of Glory all hope of earned reward evaporated. In comparison to his peers his life was a jewel of selfless giving, but judged by perfection his mentor’s words were frighteningly true: “Ultimate justice is ultimately death.” He prepared for justice.

Yet in the Hall of Glory ultimate justice is superseded by wondrous mercy. Unimagined grace spoke, “Come.” He was welcomed home in love.

A Hero's Welcome to the Jungle

Heracles marched proudly through the city of Tyrins with the pelt of the Namean lion upon his back. His twelve labours were complete and his name would live on. He was a hero, a champion, a legend, a demigod.

The mob felt otherwise.

“Murderer! Scab! Rustler! Scrumper!" They shouted.

A woman emerged from the crowd and, as she threw a bucket of blood over him, screamed “Fur is murder!”

A Talent to a Muse?

Father continued his cross-examination. “You sold inspiration… for money?”

“I don’t recall,” Urania mumbled.

“You’re humiliating your mother.”

“I… I…” Urania bowed her head. Her lie was transparent, but she could not tell the truth, that she had forced her inspiration on humankind.

“You let them discover the Earth was but one minuscule part of my universe.”

Your universe, Father?” she said. “While you’ve been swanning around, humans have made it theirs.”

Maid to Order

'...leaped from the cliff. At the bottom, the White Maid blooms to this day.'

“She turned into a flower? How stupid is that? And the villains walked away, to do it again.”

“Ok ... '...she became a songbird, and flew away.'

“A bird, seriously? Why does the girl always have to lose everything, anyway?”

“What, then?”

'The villains turned into fertilizer for flowers, and she grew up, became a soldier and protected all the innocent maidens.' ”

First among equals

Lion was lawmaker. Eagle was enforcer. Justice... justice, she was Jackal.

Man came to Lion and said: “Make me the law.” Law was made.

Man came to Eagle and said: “Enforce me the law.” Law was enforced.

Man came not to Jackal.

..................*

Lion roared and ripped at Man.

Eagle screeched and raked at Man.

Man wept.

Jackal blunted Lion’s teeth.

Jackal stole Eagle’s claws.

Jackal came to Man and said: “Never again forget me.”

Tarnished Soul

That Vincent? Belonged to a bank robber. When the police shot him, his girlfriend took it. Used to ride around with 'if you can catch me you can have me' on the back of her jacket. No one did. She went under a cement lorry on Hammersmith Bridge. They had to use a shovel to get her off the road.

Hardly a scratch on the bike. There never is.

But anyone who rides it dies.
