Indeed "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." is the Golden Rule. I was thinking of it in terms of the Judge, was he using the "Golden Rule" to dispense grace as Jesus would have us do, or human justice? If the judge were using it as Jesus would have he would not have turned a "mob" loose on the accused. He would have confronted the accused, convinced him of his sin, and commissioned him to change his life and make whatever reparation was possible.
Now that I've thought of your story a bit more, perhaps you were thinking in terms of the accused. In which case he is reaping the fruit of his labors.
