Wouldn't you want something a little sturdier than crochet for dragon toys? I'd think they'd make short work of those....

*contemplating the difficulty of crocheting with rawhide*

Oh, I got a stealth vote. Thanks, BigJ. 'Tis appreciated. :)

It looks like Grinnel's edging out in front, but, with a day to go, there's still a few names in the race. Just too many good entries.

Egads!!

I've mostly been out of chrons for a week or two, desperately editing a story from 10,000 words to 8,000. I came back to read the 300 worders to get some inspiration and I find I'm in the running for the winner??!!

I should leave more often!

I'd best get reading and get my own votes in.

Win or loose, I owe boatloads of thanks to those who voted for me!

Is exactly what I said when I saw those two extra votes I didn't know I had. :). Thanks, I've been busy Nanoing and hadn't checked, but that's brightened my evening no end.

Four now...got to be happy with that.:D

It's one AM and I haven't slept for 2 days, but I'm gonna vote before I crash.

Here be my list.

*Spurring platy - Nice twist. I couldn't resist voting for it, being a DnD player and DM for lo these many years. In fact, I may steal the idea and spring it on the hapless PC's in the next town along the road. I hope they like cats!

Moonbat

Brev

Boneman

Billy sales

Culwich

Kylara

*Perpetual man A new take on the end of an old fairy tale. Pherhaps happily ever after isnt really ever after all.

David Evil overlord

*Hex An appropriate story for a writer named Hex, I would say.

These votes could tip the balance against me winning the contest, but darn it, a good story is a good story!

LOL! That was known as a suicide vote! I was leading and now I'm tied with 2 of the entries I voted for!

But is shows great integrity, voting for those that you really wanted to vote for even if they do offer a challenge. It is one of the hardest things to do, and deserves a special mention.

(It's easy to say when I was one of those you voted for).

Lots of great stories. Special mentions to Luiglin, Grinnel, Reiver, Glen, TSP, Ursa, Judge and Phyrebrat

Votes go to Hex for a lovely little authentically (as far as I can tell) Russian-feeling tale, TDZ for a very enjoyable (and well-timed) ode, and Mouse, for my favourite entry, one so brilliantly creepy and mysterious it makes me shiver with delight every time I read it.

Forty seven entries, forty three voters; doesn't sound too bad, does it?

But allmywires, nixie, StilLearning and Talysia voted without having submitted this time, while Interversus voted while never having posted a 300 word entry – many thanks.

So that leaves Billy Salls, ctg, Glen, Kylara, Robjwhite, SciFrac, Scott R. Forshaw and silvermoon who posted without voting yet, andThe Judge and Ursa Major doing their regular brinkmanship.

Useful things charts, aren't they?

Impressive stuff Chris!

So, that means that everyone still has a mathematical chance of winning, doesn't it?

* 48 bottles of appropriate celebratory tipple going on ice *

Brinkladyship, if you please, Chris...

Anyhow, procrastination is over:

My short list after a great deal of agonising:

alchemist -- Sins Of The Flesh
chrispenycate -- In the blood
DEO -- Tanaranth and Melanthae
Hex -- The Best Boots in the World
Perpetual Man - Love Like Old Leather
reiver33 -- They Also Serve

And my votes go to alchemist, Chris and reiver.

Special mentions for exquisite daftness to Luiglin and HareBrain, and for ingenuity and invention to Grinnel.

Many thanks for the mentions and shortlistings, and megthanks to Lilmiz and reiver for the votes!
