DISCUSSION THREAD -- November 75-word challenge

With no firm ideas yet myself, I'm starting to wonder.

I'm appalled Chopper hasn't turned up and entered, or at least begged our forgiveness, given that it's largely his fault (possibly) I was convinced the genre existed in the first place.

The thing is, though, the genre does now exist. We have all participated in a wondrous act of pushing fantasy to new horizons of classification, and thus there is no reason for me to be hunted down and killed.

Tell that to those who have not posted :)

Of course I'm not complaining. So few comment to write, it's like an unexpected holiday, which is probably what HB was thinking when he set the challenge, so he gets my thanks.

(And if that does not trigger a deluge of entries nothing will)

I've been lost myself on any ideas for this month, but, after reading a few that were funny, I may be able to come up with something I suppose.

I thought the creator of this odd genre (Chopper) would have lead the way to define his idea for us. Then again, he may only want to see us do that in our own interpretations.

I wot not yet if mine contains
The slightest element of punk.
Yet challenge I could not resist
And sought my fire where it might burn
The singèd beard of Philip II.

Nor can I tell, in wider terms,
Whether our cultivated giants
Are merely holding back and polishing
Or truly inspiration destitute.

Take courage, post, through literary depths spelunk
For no-one knows what's Tudor punk.

before i retreat, appalled, to my bower, i shall endeavour to post a few works for research and possible further enjoyment of this non-existent genre.

Triumff, by Dan Abnett
Alchemist of Souls, by Anne Lyle (also a resident of this forum)
The Silver Skull, by Marc Chadbourn

for my own part, the label of Tudorpunk was, i fear, the product of a cheese dream. but at the same time, it's good to see that the challenges are still proper challenges. if i can coax my tired brain into doing something unrelated to HKV, i might even enter before the deadline...

just so there's no reason for HB to unfriend me! :D

Starbeast, it's still very early.
Either rework it or start again, unless you are really needing the down time.

I couldn't possibly rework my first idea, it wouldn't work because it has too many items from the 20th century. After some time away and research in the "Tudor Period", I wrote a tale.

I'm with the droves secretly (ok not so secretly) crying over Starbeasts early withdrawal.
true to my name, i'm hoping he gets hit with inspiration a second time and dazzles us all with an unexpected entry.

Ah, my dear lady, you are very sweet. Fear not, and tear no more, I came up with something.

Thank you wise man, I'll do what I can.
I like your words and wit.

You did provide a great challange. Join if you can, because I'm entering this month.

I hope you didn't pound your head too hard on a desk.

BM – GROAN. In the best possible way, not much more that can be said other than sheer genius.

Starbeast – And for the first time ever someone gets two comments in one month... and glad we are to see SB. A place where familiarly named kids get a choice to work in the workhouse, or meet a horrendous end. It’s one thing to have the backbone to stick with your convictions, but perhaps in the end the other option might be better, especially when it turns out that the workhouse might slightly more palatable than it seemed.

I was going to mention that there might have been a bit of an influence, but I could not bear to do it.

Arrgh. I'm at such a total loss this month.

What a lot of history I've managed to forget. I keep looking up ideas and realizing that I don't remember enough to be convincing about any of it. And that's just the stuff I actually learned at some point.

Perp, sorry for making you feel uneasy; it was unintentional, I promise. The Alka seltzer is in the post. :D

Thank you kindly for a great review. As always, you've been nothing short of brilliant. :)

Don't worry Scott, my fault entirely, but it puts you in a special club, as far as I am aware has only two members...

If you forget history, you're doomed to repeat it. Time machine optional.

Mosaix – The truth will out as they say. A thoroughly entertaining story that juxtaposes modern conspiracy theory and indeed personalities on the historical stage. You can almost hear the trouble he is causing himself by disparaging the Queen and her family, surely an insult that must be dealt with. Unless of course it is true, in which case it REALLY needs to be dealt with.
