And there you go!

A little more constricting, but I have faith in you all! :D

(We do have an expressed concern from an honorable member that there may be torture of furry felines impending, so please do tread carefully on the tales ... err ... well, then.)

Note that any torture of kittens will prompt a pain-filled visit from MegaMog and Lilliputian.

You have been warned.

Damn ... I used up my cat tale quota last month ;)

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

I think I'm going to be yelled at.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

This makes me long for something simple like 'A Trip to the Moon' in the style of Chaucer.

Kittens, Tall Tales, I think I'm going to have to punt this time. This boggles my mind.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

The standard is being set high, as usual, by our openers! :D

Sorry guys -- I'm with you, really, in having not the slightest idea what to write. It wasn't tailored to a previously-written story, I can promise!

I shall endeavor to uphold the (self-perceived) winners' standard of stalling till the last minute and then posting something that gets no votes.

You never know, I was pleasantly surprised this last month to snare a vote!

Also.... Kittens? Srsly? I can has new theme?

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Well.... this is different.

I can see an opportunity for a few risqué pieces here. (And I'm delighted to be not writing comments this month...)

First three stories in are absolute crackers.

Incidentally was I the only one that thought of the Goodies when I saw the challenge?

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Yeah... this is kinda why I don't enter these any more! Also, I don't like cats so I'm definitely out.

edit: although... baby rats are called kittens. Hmm.

I must admit, when I first saw the theme I had no idea what I could do, but inspiration struck rather suddenly (and a poem, to boot - not my usual style at all!), and I spent the better part of the morning writing it down. Getting the right amount of syllables per line was an interesting challenge for me, too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the other entries. There are some great ones so far.:)

Haha April fools ... oh wait. Really?

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Taly, you're in good company: I normally avoid poems like the plague! And then it occurred to me who was the master of tall tales about cats (I couldn't use kitten, sadly, and keep it a proper parody). So, a homage to one of my favourite poets. Good fun!

The term 'kittens' reminds me too much of my first wife, so I'm out this month.

Wow. I'm sorry to see so many people bowing out over it, although there is still plenty of time in the month to see minds changed. This is, after all, why they call it a "challenge". :) It is also, I note, the reason that I've finally and irreversibly made the list of people that nobody will ever vote for again. Chrispy, I've come to the dark side!

On the other hand, it seems to be bringing out the poet in a lot of others! There is some serious competition up already.

Out of curiosity, does "tall tale" translate into "nursery rhyme" or "poem" across the pond? Because it's more of a "wildly implausible exaggeration" in America. Not that any so far, poem or not, are not also wildly implausible exaggerations.

Wish you'd done that in February. But I agree - a challenge is supposed to be challenging, and something like this gives us a chance to try something new. So let me take this opportunity to say that I will not be dropping out, assuming I come up with something over the next three weeks.

As far as I know, a "tall tale" over here is the same as a "tall tale" on your side of the pond, so there's likely nothing lost in translation. And at the end of the day, people can always look it up on Wikipedia if they're unsure.

I've got too many ideas - I think it a great challenge.
