Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013 -- HAREBRAIN WINS

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Out of curiosity, does "tall tale" translate into "nursery rhyme" or "poem" across the pond? Because it's more of a "wildly implausible exaggeration" in America. Not that any so far, poem or not, are not also wildly implausible exaggerations.

To me, a tall tale is just as you say, it's just that as the idea for my story formed, it felt like the style of a poem suited it more.:)

Nothing wrong with a bit of nonsense verse to tell a tall tale in.

pssst, starbeast. typo in your last sentence.

Oh no, absolutely not! I was just curious, as so many seemed to be heading for poetry who hadn't done that very often, or at all. Talysia, I think poetry suits you! :D

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Thanks Booksforlunch, I completely overlooked the word "the", it should be "thee". My spell checker doesn't correct for that type of mistake (or check for word count).

Thanks so much, and nice to meet you.

TheDustyZebra, TALL TALE refers to telling an unbelievable story, or fable, or telling a "whopper" (a lie).

Thanks Lenny, for pointing out what Booksforlunch was trying to tell me, it was the word "liars", I spelled it "lairs".

Big thanks to both or you! You two are awesome!

AMB -- A dark folk rhyme, full of sardonic wit

Verse -- A playful parody of science fiction cliches and a modern fad

nixie -- combines nursery rhymes in a creative way

Talysia -- an amusing poem with a great punch line

springs -- a clever pastiche of Old Possum and his Practical Cats

booksforlunch -- use a change in point of view to transform an ordinary event into a tall tale indeed

Starbeast -- a droll tale making use of the punster's art

paranoid marvin -- a funny bit of verse which makes good use of historical references for its climax

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Am I the only one to see a link between 'Tall Tales" and "April Fools Day" or am I reading too much into this?

Anyway it's supposed to be a challenge guys and gals. Get on with it. :p

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Wowzers, this will be a challenge. Better than Tudor in the style of whatever that was!!!

I look forward to straining my brain on this one

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

eew, strained brains...takes out the best bits!

mosaix - laughing cawmiouw - isn't there a "pre-noon" ruling? Some old fella was arrested this afternoon for trying to sell faggots of wood, kindling and charcoal; no longer April fuels day!

I hope its not an April Fools joke, I came up with an idea. And only lost half the function in my frontal lobe in the process
