Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

I hope it isn't an April Fools as well - mine's up.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

I didn't mean the challenge was an April Fool's joke but that the genre - "Tall Tales" - was the kind of thing that gets told on April Fools day - as a news item for instance.

"Smell that? Do you smell that? It's brain juices. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of brain juices percolating in the morning. It smells like...writers."

TheDustyZebra presents a theme which seems difficult at first, but when I glossed over everyone who submitted before me, I knew you mighty writers out there would do your best.

I'll begin reviewing the first TEN, starting with a post that appeared within an hour of the challenge's openning.

Victoria Silverwolf - You began the competition anthology with one of the mighty legends of folk tales, Paul Bunyan. And told a wonderful story about his gigantic bobcat, named Tiny.

AMB - Earlier you mentioned you may have stepped over the line of harming cats in your entry. Hey, it's cool, it's only fiction. You brought forth a very funny poem that I couldn't help but to delight in.

Verse - All right! A sci-fi story with a title that foretells the coming events. I enjoyed your invasion tale, and smiled at the little feline invader that spoke in a cute child-like voice.

Nixie - A truely incredible animal story which sounds like a great children's book to read for the young and old. You filled your post with pleasent images of talented creatures, nicely done.

Talysia - You dazzle us here with a sweet poetic cat treat about your Grandmother's amazing, and quite powerful tabby kitten named Lunn. Very charming.

Springs - A marvelous retro sci-fi yarn you've spun, with the fantastic adventures of Astromit. A cartoon-like classic written in poetic form. Rayguns and Ming, I love it.

Booksforlunch - A feline that stands her ground and defeats the animal control man, by causing him to loose his footing and come to an untimely demise. Dark, yet entertaining.

Starbeast - Brother and sister kittens, Wraith a black cat and Dorothy a white cat, learn not to be naughty. The idea poped into my mind as I awoke this morning.

Paranoid Marvin - Another well written poem by you sir! Jam-packed with a tremendous colorful history about a feline named Napoleon. Plus, a mighty zinger at the end. Awesome.

Stormcrow - Oh man, you bring me back to my Army days, when soilders would come up with far-fetched tales to tell thier sergeants the following morning. Great work!

Well, that's done. Hopefully I didn't lose too much of the rhythm when I was chopping it down to 75 words (had a really tough time with that). Still sounds okay in my head, but that isn't necessarily saying too much.

Thanks for the review, Starbeast.

Well, it does strain just a little bit in places, but I'm trying to sing it to the "Beverly Hillbillies" tune, so that may be the problem -- unless that's what you were aiming for. Either way, I love it! :D
