Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013 -- HAREBRAIN WINS

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

The poll is closed, and unless my eyes deceive me, we will need a tie-breaker poll. Watch this space (or one further down this thread).

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Well, my final wrestling for the vote was between Victoria and TJ, so now it's TJ.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Wow, another Tie-Breaker! Time to vote again!

Thanks very much to Springs, Barlennan, Glisterspeck and Luiglin for the votes, and to everyone else who mentioned mine.

You're welcome HareBrain.

Crikey, thank you for shortlistings and Hon Mentions Starbeast, marvin, Luiglin, Juliana, Phyrebrat and HB. And BIG (astronomically BIIIIIIGGGG) thanks to Bowler, Talysia, Perp and Parson for the votes!! (I'm glad someone got the stophe pun, Parson. I was as pleased as a cat with cream with that one!)

You're welcome The Judge.

True story. There I was standing in an open space minding my own business when a dart, a GENUINE dart came out of nowhere and plugged me right between the eyes.

Can I pull the dart out? It adds character if you leave it in.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Voted for The Judge. I just like ol'-fashioned hyperbole.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Ty to Juliana, TDZ, Boneman and TJ for the mention.

I went for Harebrain the first time but still haven't got my pm about the horrific events in the Mewling... :(

Showing great generosity for his oversight :p, I went for it again!

Well done Tj and HB!

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Congratulations to both TJ and HB.

I voted for TJ first time around, so stuck with it this time.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Many thanks for the mentions, TJ, TDZ and Ursa, and thanks to Moonbat for the surprise vote!:)

And congratulations to TJ and Harebrain - though my vote goes to TJ again in the tie break. Well done all!

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Many thanks to those shortlistings and and another vote from Harebrain!! What a purrfect day.

So, tiebreak! I had HB's entry on my shortlist and not TJ's, though it nearly made it - I have voted for poetry before, though generally, they don't gel with me as much as stories. Just comparing the two was a tough choice, but I voted for HB. Well done both of you!

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Thankyou TDZ and The Judge for the notable mentions.

And another vote - thankyou so much Ursa!!:)

Both are excellent entries and would deserve to win, but The Judge came second in my top 3 entries, so gets my vote after narrowly missing out first time around.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Not another tie-break... *gets her bridesmaids outfit ready. Again...*

Thanks for those who've voted for me so far. HB was on my short list so that was a no-brainer for my vote. (But pink satin would actually look better on him than me, folks. I'm better in white. Hint, hint.)

Thanks for the shortlisting, TDZ. I have to confess that though I loved the feel of yours, I wasn't actually sure what was going on, which is why it didn't make the short-list. Can we get an explanation now?

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Well since HB was in my top shortlist I have elected to vote for his great story!

Now that's worth a vote for TJ, guys, just to see HB in pink satin.

Thanks for the shortlisting, TDZ. I have to confess that though I loved the feel of yours, I wasn't actually sure what was going on, which is why it didn't make the short-list. Can we get an explanation now?

Err ... well ... I guess I can say it, since I'm blacklisted in the publishing industry anyway -- mine was to reveal the secret of the question plaguing everyone's minds, "where is all this first-person present-tense stuff coming from?" See, evidently it's because kittens have taken over the publishing world, and for kittens, "it's all about meeee, and all that matters is nnnowwww." :D And sorry, HB, but Rabbit and Zebra are both in deep doo-doo for asking the question. There's nothing I can do for you. Except disguise you in pink satin, and maybe you can still sneak in.

I did, as I mentioned earlier, have another story all ready to post, and then I realized that it was a story about a tall tale, rather than being a tall tale in its own right, and so I went back to the drawing board. I will post that one later, as I don't have it with me now -- I'm sure it would have been a better choice, as it could hardly get any worse than the one I posted! :D I did mention up front, didn't I, that thing about the one who sets the challenge waiting till the last second and posting something horrendous?

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

TDZ, I'm really ticked off with myself that I didn't get the meaning behind your story. I think I must have been in a rush when I read it, for which I feel rather ashamed. Looking at it again, I think it's great (naturally, because it's partly about meeee).

I'm looking forward to the pink satin.

Re: Discussion Thread - SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE April 2013

Congratulations to TJ and HB - well done. :D

(well, never mind Boneman, you made the right choice with your first vote ;))

I just wanted to echo this sentiment - I feel dumb, too. It is so obvious now it's been pointed out. I didn't post in the thread about 1PP but I followed it.

... pink satin would actually look better on him than me, folks. I'm better in white. Hint, hint...

Let me help you out there :)

So TJ was on my shortlist therefore my vote goes there. But in retrospect I do see the genius of HBs piece and feel like I missed the trick first time round, and would have had The Mewling on my original shortlist. I know that sounds like a bum thing to say, but if it mitigates, Victoria was pretty much guaranteed to get my vote so it wouldn't have been a game-changer. However..... I would like to retrospectively add HB to my shortlist...<wriggle, wriggle, weaselly Baltar wriggle>

Anyway, congratulations to The Judge and Harebrain, both.

Finally, A big thank you to Boneman for the vote, and to be mentioned by her Honour in despatches.

Has anyone heard from EricWard or James? I usually enjoy their entries but not seen either of them on the boards lately.

pH

p.s I think I spend more time deliberating on my votes and short lists than I do when marking BTEC or A' Level dances/papers!

Ahh yes, retrospective genius -- my specialty! :D The trick is in getting far enough away from my work to see what it was about....
