Moonbat – We here at the Chronicles apologise whole heartedly to the residents of Slough and their wonderful city, it is after all where Mars Bars come from... but hell, it's a cracking story filled with chewy bits to mull over, a hard science like shell, and a light fluffy ending. How could you not enjoy it, the trouble is once it is gone you still want more...

HB – A very clever tale that shows a more malign and long term deity intent on the destruction of the world. The opening seems to be showing an area of enlightenment, but it soon twisted as greed and desire for life eternal takes hold. There is probably a truthfulness about this that is hard to see, but the additional bit about a god prepared to set something like this up and wait, letting man do his work for him is probably going to be more successful than any full on assault.

Anya – As always a quirky different tale allowing to see things from different perspectives, but I think what I liked most was the decision of where to define her end of the world. Perhaps for some this would be considered the genesis, but in fact with humanity being thrown out of the paradise that had been prepared for them, could this actually be the end of the world?

Cul – Justification for doing or not doing work if there was ever any. Like perhaps playing games, going on Facebook or even writing comments for Chrons while at work? Who would do it eh? Perhaps in many ways this is the greatest reality about seeing the end of the world. It might seem to be something worth seeing, but it is in fact The End, and knowing what is coming and bring the end, on a personal level a little closer a little sooner.

AJB – Another excellent idea and a well presented one. Sometimes knowing too much might be a bigger curse than a blessing. There is probably a feeling that you have become near omnipotent with the ability to step between realities and look at alternate Earth's, until you find that one thing that destroys you belief and world. A brilliant twist when you find your soulmate in the arms of another, under minds everything and your bedrock crumbles.

Thanks for the insights Perp & Starbeast.

My Shortlist
CathyM; Mosaix; Brev; Phyrebat

Brev's is the one that I keep coming back to.

Thanks for the mention, Luiglin. :)

And thanks for the mini reviews, Victoria and Starbeast. :)

Antipodes - Victoria Silverwolf
The Streets of the City - David Evil Overlord
The Restaurant at the Ends of the World – mosaix
The Lost Traveller or the Little Prince Grows Up – Juliana
Away With the Fairies – Brev

The Last Place on Earth – Moonbat
Two Sides of Every Story – AnyaKimlin
The Lament of Vinson Massif – Phyrebrat
To Strive. To Seek. To Find? - The Judge
The Certainty Principle - Ursa major

To be the favorite in that list is awesome, there are some fabulous stories, thank you so much, johnnyjet - you have absolutely turned a grey and cold day into a warm and positive one!

Now to re-read all the entries, and try and decide - we must be due three votes for a 75 worder soon, if only on account of the rubbish summer we're having.;):)

It took a while to sort out, but the four vying for my vote eventually dwindled down to:

AMB, Ratsy, Perpetual Man and Parson.

Very difficult to decide which one, but after much contemplation and re-reading, Ratsy got it by a nose. Packed with a lot of layers, really enjoyed it.

thankyou for the reviews victoria and starbeast! you guys are always so kind.. you make my day!

Many thanks to johnnyjet and Venusian Broon for the short listings. I'm not sure how many people were going to pick up on mine so to have had two mentions is enough to make my month.

Hopefully I'll be able to catch up tomorrow and start making lists of my own.

:DThanks for the Short list!! Wasn't sure this month.:D

Thank You for the shortlisting Springs! I'm delighted you enjoyed my little excursion.

A tougher choice this month than many, I reckon. Great ideas rolling-out all across the board!

My shortlist:

Victoria Silverwolf - A splendid little tale of discovery with a wry chuckle as a reward!
AMB - A very tidy story, poignant and surprising.
DEO - Atmospheric. Such simple, powerful images.
Abernovo - I like the unusual handling of the theme here - and the fantastical Victoriana too! I could read on for hours...!
Juliana - Great situational piece; elegantly written.
SleepyDormouse - Some lovely details in this speculative metaphysical story (yarn?).
Boneman - Very, very nice. The wonderful focus-shift closes this story off beautifully.
Phyrebrat - A tasteful & mysterious offering - like an apple! Antarctica, post solar flares; that's a great idea.
Ursa Major - A clever idea, which, like the mad scientist, delivers!

crystal haven - Wonderful! A delightful story of inheritance, treachery and murderous intent...my vote-winner.

wow! thanks johnnyjet for shortlisting me! made my day that has.

I went with Perpetual Man for my vote. I really liked the pace, structure and tone of the poem. I also really liked Boneman and moonbat's. So many good ones to choose between.
