Discussion thread -- seventy-five word challenge October 2013

tisiphone, as everyone else has said, and having had someone in my family taken before their time recently as well, my thoughts are with you and your family.

kia kaha (stand strong)

and thanks for the review starbeast. glad you liked the story.

TheDustyZebra - Ah-haaaa. I knew I'd come across a ghost lover story. This one is high spirited, and goes all the way for passionate pleasure. Hot stuff.

Thanks, Starbeast! Nearly as many double entendres in your review. :D

Mosaix - A young ghost's first date. Such a sweet tale of delightful creepiness. Shows you that the dead, aren't much different then the lliving. Very cute.

It's always interesting to see how many completely different takes we can come up with for one story -- I see this one from completely the opposite direction! The way I've got it, she's the living one and dad is the ghost who has to let her go now that she's growing up.

What? I had them both as vampires. (I thought "ghost" story was just a scary metaphysical story.)

Ghost Stories/Pleasure
(part two)
I Voyager - Heh heh heh. What a tremendous idea, by making a buck off of the living dead. Why not, people pay to get scared at amusement parks. Deviously cool.

Thank ye very much. Your reviews are always quite generous.

I may try doing reviews soon... I'll give it a couple more contests so I can be more familiar with the participants. How do people stand on criticism? I dislike being offensive, but I both enjoy being constructively criticized and doing the same for others. But if it's something decidedly in opposition to the spirit of this contest I would avoid it.

No criticism at all, Voyager -- that's been the rule since the beginning. Although a good many of us here are aspiring to be published, some only enter for the fun aspects of the Challenge, and we don't want anyone to be discouraged or upset by receiving any kind of critique, no matter how mild and/or constructive. So the reviews are limited to saying good things only, please.

Incidentally, if you'd like your own pieces critiqued, there's always the http://www.sffchronicles.co.uk/forum/529972-improving-our-75-word-stories-read-first-post-34.html thread.

Thanks Starbeast for your kind words

Thanks Victoria for the positive review

So sorry to hear of your loss Tisiphone, your poem is a beautiful tribute to a special person.

Tisi...I am so sorry for your loss. That was very touching. I like to believe there is something better waiting for us after this place.

SB, thank you for the review. Your uplifting words always make me feel good about my entries.

Tisiphone, my condolences. Thoughts are with you.

I Voyager -- This sly tale reminds us that just about anything can be used to make a profit, by those clever enough to exploit it.

Andersson -- An eerie story that carries an unexpected twist in the tail, forcing the reader to question her assumptions.

Hilarious Joke -- The author uses the techniques of poetry to create a dream-like mood in this unusual offering.

J Riff -- A gruesomely funny black comedy which plays games with our expectations.

Abernovo -- This intriguing account of a seemingly ordinary conversation uses a very subtle touch to reveal hints of what is left unsaid.

Thank you, Starbeast, clearing out the in tray I see.

You're welcome Bowler1. I thought I'd tackle the reviews immediately this time.

You're mighty welcome TheDustyZebra. I read the story a few times before I reviewed it, because at first read I didn't see any ghosts. Later, I was certain it was about a ghost family. But you're right, we all pick up things differently. Parson thought it was about vampires.

I thought so too. Made me all weepy.

(and thanks for the fab review, Starbeast!)

You're welcome Hex. I was touched by Mosaix's story as well.

Thank ye very much. Your reviews are always quite generous.

You're very welcome I Voyager. It's always nice to have another reviewer joining us. Hope to see you do that soon.

Thanks Starbeast for your kind words

You are immensely welcome Paranoid Marvin.

You're welcome. Keep up the good work Ratsy.

Ghost Stories/Pleasure
(part three)

Andersson - Firstly, nice to meet you. Excellent, a seance. I had that idea too, but I changed my mind. Your story has a great disturbing creepiness to it which I applaud. Good stuff.

Hilarious Joke - A dark and delightfully eerie poem about the spirit of a person, who rises from their coffin to enjoy the night life, every night. But with the coming dawn, returns to rest. Nicely written.

J Riff - Heh heh heh. A story, not unlike a Tales From the Crypt offering, which stunned me. then made me chuckle diabolically. A man who is bothered by a ghostly image, is now himself a restless spirit. Wonderful.

Abernovo - Not everyone likes a haunted house, but in this case, it's a great selling point for a buyer. Mu-ha ha ha ha ha. Talk about witnessing and having close encounters with moaning ghosts. Ghastly good stuff.

nixie -- In the tradition of Bradbury, the author offers us a tale perfect for a cool October night, with just the right amount of delightful chills.

johnnyjet -- Elements of a traditional haunting are used to play with the reader's expectations, leading to something darker and unexpected.
