Discussion thread -- seventy-five word challenge October 2013

i think your ghost fair is thought out differently then his was nixie.. his was more of a goblins market style carnival, then a ghost fair itself. very nicely done story of yours, too, nixie.

(but nixie 'something wicked this way comes..' is classic october halloween reading.)

No no, not stolen at all, even if you had read it -- it just has the ambience of Bradbury's carnival, which is a good thing. :)

Phyrebrat, we won't spoil it for you -- I couldn't even if I wanted to, because I have such an abominable memory that I barely remember it anyway, despite having read it half a dozen times in my life.

And now I have the desire to read Agatha Christie. Starting with 'By the Pricking of my Thumbs' :D I realize its not at all what you guys are talking about, but I think I quite fancy a nice little murder story spree.

I do that, too -- see or hear a line somewhere that reminds me of something, and then I'm not happy until I dig it out and read it, whatever it is. I'm already reading Shakespeare at the moment, so I can probably get my fix there and not have to dig out Bradbury ... for a while, anyway. :D

Thanks for the lovely reviews, Victoria and Starbeast. :)

You are very welcome Abernovo.

Ghost Stories/Pleasure
(part four)

Nixie - Tremendous idea about a phantom fair. I enjoyed myself with your tale, because it brings forth my childhood memories, I really have a good time at those places of amusement. Creepy good fun.

Johnnyjet - An eerie tale about a ghost in, "The House at the Edge of the Cemetary". Great title. It read like the beginning of a mystery filled with horror, and I want more. Well done sir.

Glen - Spine-tingling entry which showcases the communication of the dead, located in (of all places) a garden. Morbidly entertaining as we listen to the restless spirits of those who dwell in the grave. Grimly good stuff.

David Evil Overlord - Your story is as beautiful as a black rose, and heart-warming (for a cold corpse). Magnificant Halloween offering that made me feel good and crave candy. Pleasent to read again, and delightfully memorable. Excellent.

Sure thing Overlord. Keep up the good work.

Now, if I can only think of something for the 300 word challenge.

Thanks for the nice comments, Starbeast! I'm still juggling ideas for the 300 word challenge myself. None of them are gelling at the moment.

That's my offering made.

Now to read what you've all come up with so far!

It's always interesting to see how many completely different takes we can come up with for one story -- I see this one from completely the opposite direction! The way I've got it, she's the living one and dad is the ghost who has to let her go now that she's growing up.

I suppose I have to keep quiet about what was intended. But as long as people enjoy the writing I don't suppose it matters either way. :)

David Evil Overlord -- The wistful memories of childhood are mingled with the bittersweet experiences of an adult in this emotional tribute to holiday traditions.

stormcrow -- The author creates a unique setting for an inspiring tribute to the human quest for victory against all odds.
