Discussion - 300 Word Challenge #11

The Challenge is open until the 31st anyway, and there's a real possibility (which we'll know for sure tomorrow) that the limit might be extended in view of Chrons being down so long.
Sorry I didn't come back and confirm this as promised -- and doubly sorry if people have been sweating hard to get stories finished -- but we did decide on a 2 day extension here as well as in the 75 worder. We just didn't get around to doing anything about it...

So that means the deadline is now... um... *counts hurriedly on fingers* 11.59 pm GMT 2 November. I think.

Oh, sure, I post my story and then come here and find out I had two extra days! :D

It's just going to have to do.

I was expecting to have my final reads tonight, but not now. I'll have to wait a few more days for voting, and I like voting so, so much.

Fume - frustration!

I'm off to shoot something with my RAY GUNS. The one stop cure all, for all my worries....

Sorry, both!

I had an idea at the weekend, but only put fingers to keyboard this afternoon, as I needed to finish something else. First draft, without an ending, came in at 376 words, which is a lot higher than usual. Some pruning has brought it down to 306, but still with a not-very-satisfactory ending. I'm not sure where to remove another half-dozen words, and I'm even less sure where I'm going to get a half-way decent end. I shall have to do a TDZ and leave it to stew in its own juices overnight.**

** it brings out the flavour... (That's for anyone who knows his/her Asterix!)

Thank you so much for the very kind review Victoria. You have a genuine talent for insight into stories, among many others

I've posted mine. I've deliberately used a famous title, since it fitted both the story and the underlying message perfectly. I sincerely hope its use here in a somewhat trivial challenge doesn't offend anyone, which is certainly not my intention, and if it does point anyone to read the original and consider the terrible wickedness which prompted it, then all to the good.

While I think of it -- with Brian's decision to close the front end of the Chrons, obviously the winning 300 worder entry can't be posted there any longer, which is a shame. We'll put our thinking caps on to see if there's an equivalent way of promoting the winner, but in the meantime I've amended the rules to delete all mention of it.

I was here for months before I even knew there was a front end, and I don't think I looked at it more than once every 2 or 3 months.

Anyway, still only 32 entries for the Challenge which is a bit disappointing for such an excellent image. The lowest entry was 34, so I do hope we can beat that. People who haven't posted yet, get writing!

I have a title and an idea. Unfortunately the idea is for a much longer piece**, so after I finish draft 1, I'll have to get out my biggest editing shears.

** - I might mention why after the voting is over.

It turns out that using the big shears has produced a completely different resolution. I wasn't expecting that.

(Oh, and why does it seem so much harder to stay within a 300-word limit than a 75-word one?)

It turns out that using the big shears has produced a completely different resolution. I wasn't expecting that.
It's odd when that happens, isn't it! A good story, too -- and in due course I'd be interested in hearing what the original ending was.

So that's 33. We need at least another one, and the clock is ticking.

I haven't had time for this this month, but I'm currently very bored. No new laptop with all my WiPs so can't work on anything, and no TV remote so am being forced by my own laziness into watching XFactor. Urgh.

So, how long have I got?

Means I have to read all the entries though cos I'll have to vote if I enter. Hmm. Let me go and stare at the pic for a bit.

Probably not! I do sometimes vote without entering, but that's when I've been reading as they come in.
