Discussion - 300 Word Challenge #11

I noticed.

The Saturday before bonfire night, and the witless wonders are out and about.

Makes me sooooooo mad! Don't start me on another rant, Perp! :p

Oi!

If you're not spending time working on your WiPs, you've plenty of time to vote.

My favourites this quarter:

  • Remedy - Irritation layered on despair.
  • Springs - Get’s this months Bradbury-esque award.
  • Victoria Silverwolf - “Arboreal passions” (to quote from one of my fave TV series)
  • Martin321 - Best use of a Heisenberg Disruptor coil
  • crow - Get’s this month’s Vonnegut award.
  • chrispenycate - a story that that uses the smell and feel of the forest, not just the idea
  • TheDustyZebra - hope

Springs, crow and chrispenycate get my votes.

Hard decisions this quarter, especially with several similar stories.

My list and votes with no particular format:
Remedy – Jungle of Broken Hearts.
Martin321 – Killing Time. I liked the voice on this one. Not pretentious at all, just clean storytelling that paints a nice colorful setting.
Vitctoria – Daphne and Apollo. A very pretty story.
Glen – Lost. A great little story. I would love to see this expanded. I found myself wondering if everyone around the protagonist was thinking the same thing – is he the only one noticing that they are enslaved, or does each man think he’s the only one that notices? - Vote

Perpetual Man – Illarion. I think I have a pretty strong prejudice against rhyming poetry, and yet I really enjoyed this story. The style fit the story, and frankly it was great. - Vote

Rafellin – Avert.
Mosaix – Putting Down Roots. A fun little story. Loved how the tone of the narrator predicted the end of the story. - Vote

The Judge – Strange Fruit.

Oops also seen a stealth vote from Rafellin, so many thanks for that too.

(People seem to be intent on getting me to that 4000th post)

Many thanks for the vote, Karn. :):)

What a lovely surprise to wake up to.

An honorable mention:
Mr Orange - wins a prize for the best title

The longlist:
Juliana - I liked the writing in this piece
Victoria Silverwolf - a moving story
Abernovo - an interesting voice and best use of the word "numpty" in a story
Karn Maeshalanadae - a faintly disturbing faerie story
Bowler1 - eerie science fiction, beware of the alien lifeforms!
The Spurring Platty - it's never a wise idea to anger the trees
AMB - the loneliness of the moors
chrispenycate - hydrogen airships, always a bad idea
Brev - an amusing prank

Votes go to:
Juliana, Victoria Silverwolf, Abernovo

Solid entries from Juliana, ratsy, Glen and Perpetual Man.

Votes to Springs, TheDustyZebra and The Judge.

For me, those three stories stood out because they successfully conveyed emotion, tackled the challenge with originality, and contained strong, consistent voices.

...And my thanks to martin321 for the mention.

Many thanks to martin 321 for the vote! :)

I thought, as there were less entries this time, the choice might be a tad easier. Some hope! The long list was ridiculous. I got it down to a short list of six:
Juliana, springs, Tisiphone, Joan Drake, The Dusty Zebra, and mosaix.

That's when the coin came out. I wanted six votes, at least. But, my votes went to

springs,
Tisiphone, and
Joan Drake.

Oh wow, I just got back and signed in properly and whoo! Thanks to Aber, Rafelin, Brev and Glen (Bradbury-esque, I love that, ty. :)) i will get round to reading in the next day or two!
