Space - Houston We Have a Problem

Ah young nephew. How is one? :) Yes, as they say in Houston, "the eagle has landed."

I have your submission!

I also have the edit from Jeff for Interview. I will send you over the weekend. :)

Hey Gary

Been ticking away on a submission for this and just have a few questions:

1. You seem to be gunning for the 'softer' side of sci fi. Are you happy to have 'harder' subs?

2. Are you ok with getting critiques on here?

3. Swearing? yes or no (not excessive more the 'oh sugar' kind of dialogue.

What Ralph asked about swearing. Also -- you want this tied closely to a specific NASA mission?

I haven't tried writing "proper" science fiction before. This is fun.

No soft or hard is fine.

Yes, no problem. Maybe keep the title secret but get it pulled to pieces. We certainly will. I want the books to be as good, if not better than other antholigies so as much as I love my mates here - no favours. I have asked Jeff to be particularly hard on my own submissions as I don't want to be accused of one rule for one and another for me.

What the f... Swearing?

Don't mind it, would astronauts swear though? "Houston we have an effing problem." doesn't quite work but I will leave it to you. They are only words that can be replaced.

@Hex No specific mission, just any past, present, alternate history or made up in the future mission. :)

Hope that helps

Just to check, Gary, you're happy if it's focused on the characters rather than a mission provided there is a clear link to a mission/s?

Yes that's fine, remember it has to have the line, "Houston we have a problem." Apart from that it sounds tickety boo. :)

I'm not saying they're foul mouthed asbo kids. I was actually thinking of two moments. An oh sugar moment ( yup everyone has em, even astronauts ) and computer cockpit voice which are known as b££chin' Bettie's. obviously if it was aimed for kids I would replace them. Thanks

Like I said, I haven't got a prob with swearing and you are right if there is a problem they would probably swear. We have swearing in the final stories of some of the malevolence tales so go for it.

Where I live swearing is the mother tongue so F*** y---*"" c--***//, if ya na warra I mean!

:)

As a point of interest Pete Conrad of Apollo 12 fouls mouth was so bad they allegedly eventually hypnotised him to hum rather than swear.

But we digress

cheers dude.

You got me there, Ralph. The thing is with me the only rule I have is "I don't have any rules."

Always make it up as I go along. Okay, I have guidelines but if a story came in that was amazing, but lacked something. We'd prob go back and ask for the missing component to be included. :)

Bottom line, reading a book is entertainment so I want well written, engaging, gripping stories that when you've finished - you want to read again.

Ha, just saw this, hopefully it will provide inspiration for someone!

Serendipity, too often major infrastructure projects are determined more by politicking or cost-saving than proper engineering thinking.

It seems defunct now, (hasn't been updated for over a year) but this is a quite amusing Star Wars meets Lego blog: Working at the Death Star

Edited extra bit: er, I thought I added a bit more to the first line, which now makes me appear to have the self-awareness of a jam doughnut and the sense of humour of a dalek. But apparently not.

No! Due to the amount of submissions received, I will have to extend:)

So for the moment OPEN till I say not. Hope that helps:D

Wh...wha...what???? You mean you've been swamped by submissions for your first two anthologies (c. 80 for malevolence - don't know how many for alien). Looking forward to seeing them. I'm sure they will be AWESOME!

How're the submissions looking for this so far Gary? Any idea when you'll be shutting the gates and selecting the chosen few?

Malevolence was open for 6 months, so I feel Space will e the same. So with that in mind, we're looking around May:)
