With 70 minutes of voting still to go, it might not be the best idea to start counting chickens quite yet.

I'm sure that springs and I are both counting ours (and each other's) on a regular basis, quite aware that at any moment a few might wander out of the night and into the other's camp.

In the meantime, a big thank you for all the mentions and votes I've received.

I now know where I've been going wrong with these challenges: for each one I've found myself trying to hatch a plot when I should have tried hatching chickens.

Rats!

Well, you have to lay a few eggs before you can hatch any chickens....

Thanks, Ursa, for the Runner-Up! :D

Oops, also thanks to Brev for the shortish-listing, and to Sleepy Dormouse for the shortlisting.

Congratulations, Teresa! Well done!

I don't have my charts updated -- isn't 16 some kind of a record?

Congratulations, Ms. Edgerton.

With this many, don't you get to keep the forum or something?

It was an honor to be in such a close race with the very talented springs, who always writes wonderful stories. Actually, it was an honor to participate alongside everyone who contributed a story.

The challenge, after all, is to write the story, and the competition is just there to make it a little more interesting, so you are all winners the way I see it.

Speaking as a moderator, how exciting was it to have more voters than stories this month! That's a rare event. So thank you to everyone who voted, whoever you voted for, and special thanks to everyone who voted even though they didn't submit a story.

First off, congrats Teresa! Well done. And well done to Springs, who had it till the last day. Both great stories which got my vote.

Thank you Boneman for the top 6. That was great to be in that pile

Thanks Harebrain for the shortlisting..glad you liked the ending. I had fun writing that line...funny thing was I didnt plan it..it just wrote itself.

And lastly thanks Ursa for the Runners Up. For me three votes ties my most ever and to get so many short lists near the top is a winning month for me!

Do we really have to wait another month and a half for another one?

Congratulations Teresa!

And to springs too, the excitement of the dash to the finish line from two very worthy stories made it all the more thrilling.

Congratulations, Teresa!

(Commiserations, springs -- that was stomach-churningly close).

@TDZ -- not quite a record. TJ holds that for 22 (!) votes in 300 Word Challenge #2.

Chin up Springs. It was a great race.
Well done Teresa.
Like any good parable, I keep thinking of HB who had the early lead and then just stopped.

I've been middle of the chasing pack all the way and over the moon for it. Vote(s) - I've never had more than two votes before and with lots of mentions too. I'm a happy bunny today.

Well done Teresa. :) And well fought Springs.

...didn't check in for a couple of days and missed an avalanche of posts. Just catching up, but thanks to Ursa, Fitzchiv and Sleepy for the mentions, and to The Judge, Boneman and BigJ for the votes. 6 votes -I think- is my best return yet for the 300. :)

Congratulations, Teresa. :)

I missed the voting for the first time, I think. Had a virus on my machine, thought I'd fixed it on more than one occasion but had a recurrence over a few days and then had reload Windows from scratch to finally sort things out.
