What are you working on right now?

I had a publisher fairly interested in my YA but they've now decided not to go further as they're cutting back on their fantasy line as it's not selling so well for them. So, I've decided I'm going to self-publish them (again) and have just finished editing (again) and am about to quickly do another skim for veil words.

Sorry to hear that, Mouse.

Sorry to hear that Mouse it is so frustrating.

I am writing a second draft of my story and trying to decide whether to keep the fantasy elements or not. Right now Cece's father has discovered she has tried to buy a business.

That sucks Mouse.

I'm currently working on a Magic Metal Steam story to sub to Gary. About 1700 words in with an outline for the rest of the story...among other things I'm dabbling in.

Also I'm writing a story that takes place in a cemetery. Not a creepy old cemetery but a large, atmospheric one. I visited my mom's grave this weekend and I spent some time there, getting ideas for my book. The good news was, I met a guy that works there and my wife looked at me after and said 'You have to include that guy in the book...there is something seriously creepy about him' I thought it was funny...and might have to have a creepy dude working in Sleepy Grove Cemetery.

Sorry to hear that. What is a veil word, by the way?

I finished the first cycle of the four characters in the fantasy novel, and I'm starting the second "turn", very unsure whether this is going to work. Some of them will be much easier to write than others.

Filter words, Toby - looks and seems etc.

Mouse, commiserations.

I'm working on my Roswell in the forest from crits and am close to 5000 words in. I'm in the first flush of love and am savouring it. :)

Yep, look and saw and heard and felt etc.

Thanks, gang. I'm not that bothered! The YA isn't really my focus any more so it's just like a side thing.

I'm currently searching for adverbs.

I'm writing a scene where my MC discovers her father in bed with her best friend's mother.

I picked up with a finger and thumb the blue silk combination that adorned the back of the chair as I picked it up a floral scent wafted into the air. It floated to the ground. The lamp on the occasional table wore a camisole, and I needed to remove it to switch on the light. How it got there I did not even want to contemplate.

Still looking for adverbs (there are a lot) and realising I used the word 'only' about 50 gazillion times. So my next job will only be killing onlys.

I spent a day getting rid of the word "that" from my 90k word manuscript ... I wish I'd been more disciplined at the outset .... :(

I'm new but I guess this is the question a new writer, like myself wanted/hopes to be asked.
I wrote a sci-fi comedy radio play and sent it to the BBC Writers Room a couple of months back. The thing is, once I'd created the universe that my story exists in, I was not happy with it being a comedy. Once I had mapped out in my mind every episode from its beginning to its climatic series 1 ending, humour seemed to just be something I'd added for no good reason. I felt my story could hold its own without being the next Red Dwarf.
So At the moment I am writing a Sci-fi novel based on the Mars One mission to send 4 crew members on a one way trip to Mars in 2024. It really does feel as if it writes itself now but like I said earlier, once you know everything about the universe your story lives in, I just have to sit at my computer and my fingers do the rest of the work for me.
Kind of :D If only it were that simple eh?

Currently re-working the second in the YA trilogy and completely ignoring the two romances and UF.

Working on chapter 3 of my wip, Sleepy Grove. Me writing a love interest from a woman's POV...this could get strange :)

Just finished the second draft of my novel (Sci-Fi, obviously). Going to leave it alone for two to three months to get some perspective.

After that it is getting it all together to try to promote it etc.

Any advice from more experienced people on here about showing off excerpts etc? Any advice appreciated.

Saw an anthology call for a post-apocalyptic story and figured why not come up with something and sub so that is what I'm working on. Started it earlier and about 500 words in but have a good idea where i'm going with it. The 300 word challenge kind of put me in the mindset already even though it has nothing to do with my entry there.

Finished chapter 28 and am now at 62k words. The chapters are lean and mean. My outline tells me there is 17 chapters left. So i'm on target for my 100k word limit.

Almost finished a map. Still need to do a bigger version and the two locals, but I've got the icons onto the computer, which is much of the work.

I'll be glad when this humidity ends.

Pop over to crits when you reach 30 posts and file one. In the meantime - crit someone else's? We all need the feedback. :)

I'm working on a new baby but much slower than usual and trying to get more right the first time. Ergo planning. But rather enjoying it.

In the meantime, while those juices flow I'm editing/adding to book 2 of my trilogy. Lord, but I love working on Abendau. I mean, I love my other stuff but... :D

Final read through of my novel, Oracle. Been caught up with work and home stuff, so not done as much as I wanted too.

Once this is done I am getting back to badly stalled WIP, set in a RAF, POW camp in the winter of 1944/45
