What are you working on right now?

True, but today has been consumed with new stuff and I've just drawn a proto-map so I think I know where my keen is being directed :)

I can't draw that well, but I have already told my artist friend I'm hiring him when the time comes. His aesthetic matches what I want in my cover art.

Terrified on beginning the intensely awkward business of self-promotion...

I have my MS of 'GunBoy', my first novelization of a screenplay I wrote a couple of years ago under edit right now (110k words). Scratching my head over covers.

I'm 15k words into my second novelization of 'Save our Souls' which judging by how far into the screenplay I am - will come in at under 60k in total and I cannot work out why. Thaddeus6th - do you mind if I steal the mongoose wearing a fez?

I've - just this weekend - started planing out the structure for the 1700s period of my wip. I'm so over researching (about 6 months solid on middle ages) that I'm enjoying thinking about characters and who thinks what, and all that. I'm a half-planner, half-discovery writer so I'm not overdoing it.

But the research... ugh... soooo slow.... and head-hurt-y. I think once I've finished the rough structure for the 1700s I'll get Stephen King's last couple of books which I've still to pick up and read them as I've been in a fiction drought for too long!

The mongoose wearing a fez is not property. He cannot be stolen. Merely... enticed.

Besides, your first priority with self-promotion should be sacrificing goats to Apollo. And getting reviews. But mostly sacrificing goats.

Any tips here on how to get people to download / read free fiction? Trying to get more people aware of a free novella series I'm writing but other than via Twitter I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to connect with the readership - and Twitter folk are used to reading in 140 characters so are not always the best readers.

Are you on Goodreads? There are some groups/boards within groups that encourage people to read free fiction.

Editing a fantasy novel. This is the first time that I’ve read it through with all the chapters in the right order. I’m slightly puzzled as to whether it’s an exciting adventure with drama on every page or an endless succession of awful things happening to the characters. There are mercenaries, undead, wyvern riding, a magical secret kingdom, gunfights, swordfights and an entire boatload full of puritans. Can’t say fairer than that.

Just finished a very quick redraft-and-polish, compared to my usual snails pace rewrites. Now I'm pottering around trying to settle on a shiny new WIP in time for Camp NaNoWriMo.

Is Camp NaNoWriMo in April? I keep missing the one in November because I seem to book holidays around the same time each year... Maybe it's my subconscious working against me.

NaNo camp and Wrimo both land at inconvenient times for me though I know I would find them useful in a motivation and focus way.
That said, having cleared all the non writing related "yes I'll do that" from my list I'm now back to writing. Doesn't it feel lovely :D
I've 3 part finished shorts to get out of my way before I can get back to the next novel. One I'd binned, but a workshop last week sparked inspiration.

It's April. You can edit a book at Camp and set your own goal - doesn't have to be as much as 50K.

I'm working on a superhuman (Notice I didn't say 'superhero') war series with a police procedural short story spinoff, a mixed science fiction/fantasy spin-in, and a few bonus chapters.
So far I've got one manuscript and one short story done, with a bunch more in progress or in outline phase. Writing is fun!- well, for me, anyway.
